Topic: Visit to court

Background:

I left for the court from home at about 8 30 am in the morning on Wednesday 3rd of
March 2021. I reached the high court of Lahore in about an hour. There was my friend’s cousin
who is a fresh LLB and practice there at court, was there to attend us. We discussed with him
about our purpose there and he guided us through.

We were a group of six girls which were divided into two groups later on and were taken
to the different court rooms. As we informed them that we had to attend some criminal law
hearing, one challenge we faced there was that to find the space in the court room, because there
was crowd of people outside the rooms where there was criminal law hearing undergoing.

Experience in Court room

Finally, we managed to go in a court room, at first we had to stand just on the door but,
the judge was giving verdicts so fast that in some time there were seats available.

View of court room: it appeared to be an average sized room in which judge was sitting
on a higher place along with his acquaintances which includes the writer and the stenographer.
There were benches placed perpendicular to each other in front of the judges place. At one side
all the lawyers were sitting on the other side there were the police officers sitting and at the back
there were seats for the public.

Case hearing

We sat in the room for about 35 minutes and in that time judge dealt with about 5 to 6
cases, among which 2 3 cases were of bail and 2 were of mutual compromise and one was
dismissed due to the related papers were missing.

The Cybercrime Case

One case was very interesting it was related to cybercrime. The effete and the accused
both parties were present, it was very difficult to follow the details because we were sitting at
back but some details we understood that, it was case of fake advertisement and online company
which they claimed that a person can earn 10 to 15 thousand in a day, work will be started after
submitting the registration fee, the effete did all that but after that the nature of work was total
different , and when he wanted to claim the money back they refused doing that. FBI was also
involved in this case and it appeared that they have claim of four to five lacs on them.

The defense lawyer said that the business is not registered on his client’s name but on the
name on his brother, and no transections have been made in his accounts, he also provided
details. Meanwhile a lawyer sitting with me said that he is trying to confuse the court, eventually
judge rejected the bail and case was dismissed for time being.

General observations
 The decorum of the court room was maintained judge asked the lawyers to read FIRs at
first but later he asked them to get on the point. The judge seemed to be taking the fair and fast
decisions and He did not like interruptions and any further arguments if any lawyer do so.

There were also many lawyers sitting in the court room some of them were with some
client but some were only there to listen the hearing and the cases like some fresh graduates.

It was a respectable environment and everyone was following the ethics and judge was
not too much loud and spoke softly.

There were policemen walking outside and also on different places checking people to
maintain security and peaceful environment. In fact, in the end when we were leaving we were
taking our pictures a policeman passed by and told us politely that please don’t take pictures it is
forbidden, means there was check and balance.

Conclusion and experience

It was a very nice experience and informative tour to the court. The perception in our
society that court is not a place for “shareef log” to go specially girls, got totally changed. The
environment was totally fine for me, because I think if we do not have faith is the most legal and
the institution of law of our society, The Court, then we have left no more trustworthy place. So I
did not feel strange I felt confident and it was worth visiting. Also I gained a lot of information
regarding my subject and field of study, it was very helpful.
