Based in Mumbai, India, Voltas Limited is a Tata firm that specializes in engineering, air

conditioning, and refrigeration. In order to gain control of M/s. Volkart Brothers' Engineering
& Import Division in India, the company was founded in 1954 by M/s. Volkart Brothers with
Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd. On September 6, 1954, the business was established as a result of a joint
venture between the Tata brothers and the Volkart brothers.

In 1956, Voltas and the well-known American HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air
conditioning) corporation Carrier Corporation formed a joint venture, which helped Voltas
gain access to innovative technology and industry knowledge in the air conditioning sector.

Between the 1960s and the 1990s, Voltas expanded the range of goods and services it offered
beyond air conditioning and refrigeration and progressively made its way into international
markets.

Voltas became an entirely owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, the Tata Group's parent company,
in 1999. This acquisition improved Voltas' status among the Tata group and offered extra
resources for continued growth.

Voltas narrowed its emphasis on its primary business of providing cooling and air
conditioning solutions in the 2000s. The business kept coming up with new ideas and
launching ecologically friendly and energy-efficient goods, which eventually led Voltas to
become the market leader in the air conditioning industry in India.
