2024 General Elections - THE MANAGEMENT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS SERVING AS VOTING

CENTRES DURING THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTIONS

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education's Head of Department, Mr Nkosinathi Ngcobo has

issued a directive contained in a Circular Number 65 of 2024 advising principals, staff and learners
of designated schools that will serve as voting stations during the 2024 general elections to hand
over schools to the Office of the IEC.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education understands that the IEC may require access to
identified schools prior and after the election date.

To this end, teachers and general staff of the affected schools may have to handover the schools
to the Office of the IEC from Monday, the 27th of May 2024 until Friday 31st May 2024 so as not
to interfere with the IEC process and for the safety and well-being of learners.

It is noted that the affected schools may lose learning and teaching time between 27th May and
31st May 2024.

It is in that regard that the principals of affected schools should ensure that learning recovery
programmes are in place to assist learners to catch up after the elections.

It must also be noted that the May/June NSC Examinations will not be affected during the election
period.
