REVISION WORKSHEET
CHAPTER: SOLUTIONS
2022-23
1. Calculate the molality and mole fraction of the solute in aqueous solution containing
3g of urea (molar mass = 60g/mol) per 250g of water.
2. 4g of NaOH is contained in one decilitre of a solution. Calculate the :
(a) Mole fraction of NaOH
(b) Molality of NaOH
(c) Molarity of NaOH.
Given: density of NaOH solution is 1.038g/cm3.
3. A solution contains 90g of H2O, 6.4g of methanol and 18.4g of glycerol. What is the
mole fraction of glycerol? (Glycerol = CH2OH-CHOH-CH2OH).
4. How many grams of Na2CO3 should be dissolved in 250g of water to prepare 0.1m
solution?
5. State Henry’s law.
6. Calculate the solubility of H2 in water at 25oC if its partial pressure above the solution
is 1 bar. Given that Henry’s constant for H2 in water at 25oC is 71.18kbar.
7. State Raoult’s law.
8. The mole fraction of ethanol in its solution with methanol is 0.80. the vapour pressure
of ethanol is 40 mm of Hg. What is its vapour pressure in solution if solution is ideal?
9. What is an ideal and non-ideal solution?
10. Give two examples each for solution showing positive deviation and negative
deviation.
11. What is azeotropic mixture? Give an example.
12. The vapor pressure of 2.1% of an aqueous solution of a non-electrolyte at 373K is
755mm. calculate the molar mass of the solute.
13. Define osmotic pressure.
14. What is hypertonic and hypotonic solution. Give example.
15. Calculate the concentration of that solution of sugar which has osmotic pressure of
2.46 atm at 300K.
16. A solution prepared by dissolving 1.25g of oil of winter green (methyl salicylate) in
99g of benzene has a boiling point of 80.31oC. determine the molar mass of this
compound. Boiling point of pure benzene = 80.10oC and Kb for benzene = 2.53oC kg
mol-1.
17. Calculate the temperature at which a solution containg 54g of glucose in 250g of
water will freeze. Kf for water = 1.86 K mol-1kg.
18. Out of the following three solutions, which has the highest freezing point and why?
(a) 0.1 M Urea
(b) 0.1M Barium sulphate
(c) 0.1M sodium sulphate.
19. An aqueous solution containing 1.248g of BaCl2 (molar mass = 208.34g/mol) in 100g
water boils at 100.0832oC. calculate the degree of dissociation of BaCl2. Kb for water
= 0.52 K kg mol-1.
20. What is the Vant Hoff factor for K4[Fe(CN)6]?
