Interior design is a professional field that must be creative, yet solve problems and produce solutions to be implemented.
By identifying and utilizing a design process, designers attempt to get to know and understand the whole problem or
situation, not just their particular view or unique area of concern.
designers not only solve problems or make designs but create things where they did not previously exist

THE DESIGN PROCESS: THE SEQUENTIAL STEPS
This simplistic two-phase design process can be further broken into eight specific steps

These steps do not necessarily have to be linear, but could instead be cylic:

No specific design process will solve every problem or be useful to every designer. This
model breaks down complicated problems into simple steps for project development and methods of communication.

COMMIT (ACCEPT THE PROBLEM)

This is the first step of design process. A commitment take a crucial part
because the process of designing also involves a commitment to
deadlines or duu dates. Some students and designer tend to
procastinating because they have not really committed and dedicated
themselves to the situation.

STATE (DEFINE THE PROBLEM)

A problem or project must be identified or stated before a designer can effectively deal
with it. Good designers try to approach new problems with a fresh outlook and remind
themselves that each problem is unique and may have a unique solution. How a problem
is defined at an early stage will have a big impact on how it is solved.

Techniques to define the problem :

Checklist, the designer devises a checklist of all aspects (physical, social,
psychological, and economic).
Perception Lists, the designers tries to perceive the situation as these people might
see it, their points of view could offer different insights into the problem.
Visual Diagrams, If a program has been supplied, this generally helps the designer to
visualize and organize the information.
IMPLEMENT

IMPLEMENT (TAKE ACTION)

executing or taking action on the selected idea and giving it physical form. This step
communicates the idea through final drawings, plans, renderings, and other forms of
presentation.

ANALYZE

In this stage the designer would look over all the gathered information about the problem and
organize it into related categories, this step would be helpful to see the relationship within the
information and draw the conclusion. The designer sifts through the data and notes those
items that are primary to affecting the final solutions and may have a direct bearing on the
problem.

IDEATE
the meaning of ideate is to open as wide as possible ideas to design problems,
produce process. The design concept is also presented (basic assumptions/thoughts
become the basis for finding solutions).
This step include of brainstorm, exploration, expermen (3d or others), visual and
tactics, sketch, bubble diagram, moodboard, and mindmap.

CHOOSE (SELECT THE BEST OPTION)

In this stage designer should chooses the most appropriate or “best” option by
going back to see how the selected concepts fit the client’s budget, needs,
objective, and desire. If the selected option satisfied the criteria, has a creative
approach, and produces a functional and exciting solution to the problem, it is the
right choice.

Techniques for choose the best option :

COLLECT (GATHER THE FACTS)

After the problem is formed, the designer makes a program by collecting data by way of
research or surveys. This step involves a great deal of research, data, surveys, ect.

Today, the rise and usage of the web has made gathering information
quicker with search engines and the proliferation of material wordwide.

Techniques for collecting informasi :

Collecting and researching background and
related information on a large project can result
in vast amounts of documents and graphical
inputs.
EVALUATE

EVALUATE (CRITICALLY REVIEW)

In this stage we reviews and makes critical assessment of what has been achieved to see if it
does indeed solve the original problem, review to see what was learned or gained from the
experience and what the effects or results of the design activity were, part of the self-
improvement of the designer and the design process used and is intended to achieve closure
on a problem.

Techniques for Evaluation :

Self-Analysis
Solicited Opinions
Studio Criticism
Postoccupancy
