Server Esxi Host Update

ESXi Host Upgrade Report

This report documents the process and successful completion of upgrading the ESXi host from version 6.5 to version
7.0. The upgrade involved downloading the latest offline bundle, uploading it to a datastore, and performing the
upgrade via the ESXi CLI.
Steps Performed
1. Download the Offline Bundle
 Accessed the Broadcom download page with a valid account.
 Downloaded the VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) Offline Bundle for version 7.0.
2. Upload the Offline Bundle to a Datastore
 Logged into the ESXi host and navigated to Storage > Datastore.
 Uploaded the offline bundle to the shared storage datastore (/vmfs/volumes/DataStore2_4TB/
/VMware7.0-ESXi700-202101001.deport-zip).
3. Enter Maintenance Mode
 Turned off all VMs running on the host.

 Entered maintenance mode by selecting the host and clicking on Enter Maintenance mode.
4. Upgrade ESXi via CLI
 Used an SSH to log into the host.
 Verified the bundle contents using:
 esxcli software sources profile list -d /vmfs/volumes/ DataStore2_4TB/ VMware7.0-ESXi700-
202101001.deport-zip).
Noted the profile name (ESXi-7.0.0-202101001-standard).
 Started the update with:
 esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-7.0.0-202101001-standard -d /vmfs/volumes/
DataStore2_4TB/ VMware7.0-ESXi700-202101001.deport-zip.
5. Reboot the Host
 Rebooted the host after the update completed successfully by typing reboot.

6. Verify Upgrade and Exit Maintenance Mode


 Logged back into the host to validate the new version/build.
 Took the host out of maintenance mode.
Verification
 The host successfully upgraded to ESXi version 7.0.
 All services and functionalities were verified to be operational post-upgrade.
