Objectives:
English 102 is a compulsory course for freshman students. The aim of this course is to improve students’
academic skills in English so that they can successfully complete their courses of study at the university. It
focuses on the cognitive skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. The course uses current reading
and listening texts and focuses on how to understand relevant parts of a text, how to read quickly and
effectively, how to relate different ideas from multiple texts and how to use texts as sources for an output
task. In writing, students are expected to evaluate and comment on data collection methods used in the
research process. In speaking, students will share their ideas on academic topics and they will learn how to
prepare and deliver an academic presentation on an academic topic.
