Service and Beacon Lighting ceremony for the 80th Anniversary of D-Day.
The Service and Beacon Lighting will take place at All Saints Parish Church, Normanton, WF6 1NT
on Thursday 6th June 2024. The Service will begin at 7:30pm, with refreshments being served
afterwards from 8:30pm – 9:10pm.
The evening will conclude with the Beacon Lighting at 9:15pm.
D-Day 80th Anniversary
car / window badges are available in the narthex for £1 which is donated to ‘Help For Heroes’
who support veterans and ex– Armed Service personnel.
New Sign-in rotas for Readers and Extra-ordinary Ministers are on the Notice Board.
Readers, Extra-ordinary Ministers and Catechists will be commissioned / recommissioned on the
Solemnity of Corpus Christi (1st / 2nd June).
Please note that the New Lectionary will begin on the First Sunday of Advent this year, therefore there
will be study sessions for the new texts later in the year when the texts are available (early October)
1st Holy Communion:
On the letter to parents two dates were unavailable for First Holy Communion, the second date
(22nd/23rd June) which I was taking as Annual Holiday Leave has been cancelled.
This date is now available for First Holy Communion.

Diocesan:
Diocesan Eucharistic Procession:
The annual Diocesan Eucharistic Procession will take place on Sunday 9th June 2024,
3:00pm at Hinsley Hall (weather dependent). Barbecue and children’s games afterwards.
All invited to participate including Altar servers and First Holy Communion children
(wheelchair/pram accessible route). Further details will soon be on the Diocesan website!
CENTENARY OF THE DEDICATION OF THE CATHEDRAL JULY 2024
On Thursday 18th July at 11.30am, together with the Priests, Deacons, Religious and Lay Faithful, Bishop Marcus will
celebrate a Solemn Pontifical Mass at the Cathedral Church of St Anne, the Mother Church of the Diocese of Leeds, to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Cathedral’s Dedication. More information about the Cathedral’s centenary
celebrations will be published in due course.
EXHIBITION OF THE HOLY SHROUD OF TURIN REPLICA:
The full-size copy of the world-famous Shroud of Turin that was recently on display at Leeds Cathedral is to be exhibited in
Holy Name of Jesus Church Hall, Cookridge. Monday 13th – Sunday 19th 9am – 5pm (except Tuesday 14th 9am-12noon).
Refreshments available. There will be a talk on Sunday 12th May, 6pm and Wednesday 15th May, 7pm. All welcome.

God the Holy Spirit


In Catholic teaching, the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son and is equal and co-eternal with them.
This mystery is encapsulated in the Nicene Creed, a statement of faith dating back to the Fourth Century, which is recited
during Mass. The Creed affirms the belief in the Holy Spirit as the “Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the
Father and the Son.”
Easter Marian Anthem The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit:
Central to Catholic teaching are the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit:
wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.
Regina caeli, laetare, These gifts are bestowed upon Christians to aid them in living a virtuous and faithful life.
alleluia. Wisdom: Enables judgment according to God’s will.
Understanding: Deepens our perception of Divine mysteries.
Quia quem meruisti Counsel (Right Judgment): Helps us to discern the right path.
Fortitude (Courage): Strengthens resolve to stand by moral and

Knowledge: Allows evaluation of things in a Divine light.
Resurrexit, sicut dixit, Piety (Reverence): Instils a deep sense of respect for God and the Church.

Ora pro nobis Deum, The Holy Spirit’s Role in the Sacraments: The Holy Spirit is essential to the Church’s
seven sacraments, from baptism, which initiates believers into the faith, to the Eucharist,

outpouring strengthens Christian life. In the sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of
Queen of Heaven, rejoice, the Sick, the Spirit’s healing and forgiving powers are manifest. And in Holy Orders and
Matrimony, the Spirit sanctifies the commitments made.
