LAW 99: LEGAL BIBLIOGRAPHY

Legal Research Guidance Template

This is a guide but each student may opt to follow a different format in navigating the
research of the preferred legal topic and drafting the paper.

Overview of the What is your general area of interest?


Topic or  Problem centric/Context Specific
Research Interest  Why is this important? Is there a legal issue/problem which
can be solved by law?
Tips: Cite events, cases, studies, statistics to prove your point.
Study Provide a snapshot of the following:
Background &  What is the global practice/phenomenon?
Problem  Brief literature overview (e.g. Emerging studies, trends, etc.)
Statement  Discuss the local context (What is happening in the PHL in
relation to your topic? Is the topic relevant? How?)
 What are the problems encountered? Is it consistent with
literature and praxis?
Research  What do you want to do? (i.e. Examine, Explore, Identify,
Objectives Develop, etc.) What is your output? Who will benefit from
this output?
 Is there significant legal problem or issue that needs to be
inquired into, where a legal solution is achievable?
 What’s in it for you?
