Basic English Writing Class 1

Introduce myself and each student (ask for their future goals, name, nickname, importance of the
name).

What do they expect from the class and what do I expect from them?

Lesson plan handouts, explain in detail what books we will be using and activities that we will be doing,
how the class will be conducted.

On the first half of the course we will be studying daily used writings (emails, invitations,
advertisements, job applications or social media texts). And the second part of the course we will focus
on academic writing, formal texts, paragraphs and short essays.

Every class consists of 4 hours, the classes will be active with the participation of the students, I will
present the topic or several topics of the day and we will be doing writing activities related to them.
Once it is finished, I will give time for group work. The last part of every class will be for group work of 4
students, each group will write one form of a writing that has been explained in the class and write it in
a poster with explanations around (vocabulary used, formal or informal, topic used, structure of the
sentences, main idea and supporting ideas...)

What is a writing? Can everyone write? Is there a single structure for writing? Debate and keywords
from the topic

Show a picture of people writing (can be found in the British council writing section), ask the students
about the type of text they think they are writing.

Task 1- Show a bad writing and a good writing, ask the students to find what are the differences
between the texts, read aloud together (it can have grammar mistakes, coherence mistakes,
organization mistakes, punctuation mistakes, confusing topic or jumping from one to another topic)
