Uses of “ The ”

1. Noun को Definite या Certain (िनि त) बनाने के िलए Definite Article The का योग होता है |

Basic Rules of ‘ The ’

1. Superlative degree के पहले िनि त प से Definite Article का योग होता है |

Example :- He is the best student of this class.
Rani is the most beautiful girl in my village.

2. “The” का योग सागर (sea), महासागरो (oceans), खाड़ी (gulf), के नाम के पहले होता है |
Example :- The Pacific Ocean ( शांत महासागर )
The Indian Ocean( िह द महासागर )
The Red sea
The Mediterrarian sea
The Gulf of Mexico
The Gulf of St. Lawrence.

3. The” का योग धा मक ंथो या बड़े थ

ं ो( Religious books) के नाम के पहले होता है |
Example :- The Ramayan , The Ganga , The Bible, The Koran, etc.

4. The का योग हवाई जहाज (Aeroplanes), समु ी जहाजो (Ships) , रे लगािड़यो (Trains) तथा समाचार – प
(News Papers) के नाम के पहले भी The का योग होता है |
Example :- The Vikrant, The Punjab Mail, The Rajdhani Express, The of India etc.

5. ऐितहािसक इमारतो (Historical buildings), थानो ( Places ), घटना (Events) के नामो के पहले The का
योग होता है |
Example :- The taj Mahal, The Red fort, The kurukshetra,The Battle of Panipat etc.

6. The का योग दुिनया क अनूठी व तुओ आकाशीय पडो (heavently bodies ), दशाए (directions) या जो व तु
दुिनया म के वल एक हो , तो उनके नाम के पहले भी The का योग होता है |
Example :- The Moon, The Sun, The Sky,The South, The North,The World, The Universe, The
Earth, The Equator,The Air,

7. Musical Instruments (वा यं ो ) के पहले भी The का योग कया जाता है |

Example :- She Knows how to play The harmonium.
My elder daughter wants to play the dholak.

8. The का योग Government branches (सरकार क शाखाओ) Armed forces(सश सेिनको) के नाम के पहले
होता है |
Example :- The Navi, The Airforce, The Army, The Judiciary, The Legislative,

9. Comparative Degree + of the two + Plural Countable Noun के expression म Comparative Degree के
पहले The का योग होता है |
Example :- Raj is the more handsome of the two boys.
She is the better of the two girls.

10. The का योग धा मक स दाय (Religious Community) के नाम के पहले होता है |

Example :- The Hindu, The Muslims, The Jews, The Christians,The Persians.

11. पवत ेणी ( range of mountains) के नामो के पहले The का योग होता है |
Example :- The Vindhyas, The Himalays, The Alps.
