Bogor Zoological Museum is a museum located in Bogor, which has collections related

to the animal world such as various preserved specimens and animal fossils. This museum is
divided into two, one of which is open every day to the public which contains an exhibition hall
located on Jalan Ir. H. Juanda No. 9 Bogor, the other museum functions as a collection site and is
only open to the public once a year in October, is located at the Cibinong Science Center on
Jalan Raya Jakarta - Bogor Km.46 Cibinong, Bogor. Both parts of the museum are managed by
the Zoology Division of the Biology Research Center-LIPI. The Bogor Zoological Museum was
originally founded as a zoological laboratory under the name Landbouw Zoologisch Laboratory
which was founded on August 23, 1894 as the brainchild of J. C. Koningsberger, a Dutch
botanist. This laboratory was established as a research facility related to agriculture and zoology.
In 1906 the name changed to Zoologisch Museum and Wekplaats, in 1910 it changed again to
Zoologisch Museum en Laboratory. Between 1945-1947 this place was known as the
Zoologicum Bogoriense Museum, and finally until now it has become the Bogor Zoological
Museum. The museum collection house has 24 collection rooms and was only occupied in 1997,
with development funded by grants from the World Bank and Japan. The museum's scientific
collections cover categories including: mammals, fish, birds, reptiles and amphibians, molluscs,
insects and other invertebrates that are not molluscs and insects.
The Zoological Museum collection located in the Widyasatwaloka building, Cibinong
Science Center covers 3.5% of the total fauna species found in Indonesia, and from the diversity
of fauna in Indonesia only 0.05% of animal samples (specimens) are owned by the Zoology
Department, Research Center Biology, LIPI.
The museum's scientific collections cover categories, there are:
1. Mammals, the collection consists of various types of mammals collected from various
islands in Indonesia. The total collection is 650 species, consisting of 30,000 animal
samples (specimens).
2. Fish, a collection of various types of fish consisting of 12,000 species represented by
140,000 examples of animals.
3. Birds, collection collected from East and West Indonesia. The total number is 1,000
species, covering 30,762 animal samples. The collection room where the bird specimens
are stored, the air temperature in the room is maintained at 22°C to prevent the collection
from being destroyed.
4. Reptiles and amphibians, recorded collections of 763 species, from 19,937 animal
samples.
5. Molluscs, the collection of stored molluscs recorded 959 species from 13,146 animal
samples.
6. Insects are a group of animals with the most number of collections. The Bogor
Zoological Museum is the most comprehensive and largest insect repository in Southeast
Asia. Insect collections recorded 12,000 species, from 2,580,000 animal samples.
7. Other invertebrates, consisting of non-mollusk invertebrates and insects. The collections
collected were 700 species from 1,558 animal samples.
