Mohr’s Circle
The transformation equations for plane stress can be
represented in a graphical format known as Mohr’s
circle.

This representation is useful in visualizing the


relationships between normal and shear stresses acting
on various inclined planes at a point in a stressed body

1. X-X axis = Normal Stress
2. Y-Y Axis = Shear Stress
3. Angles Taken with reference to x-x Axis
4. All angles Anticlockwise to X-X axis = negative
5. All angles clockwise to x-x axis = Positive
6. Values above the X-X axis and Right to the Y-Y
axis are taken as Positive
7. Values Below the X-X Axis and Left of the Y-
Y Axis are taken as Negative
