Creating Floors

Exercise 8-1
1. Start Revit 2018

2. Open the file Exercise 8-1.rvt

3. Go to 01 First floor plan

4. Start Floor: Structural command

5. Select from Properties Concrete-Commercial 362mm family

6. Set Height Offset from Level = 362mm

7. Using context tab, using Draw panel, select Pick Supports and pick all the
outer beams of the building (make sure the first pick is on horizontal beam).
Press [Esc] twice to get out from the picking process. Using Modify panel
select Offset command, make sure Numerical is selected, set Offset = 650 and
turn off Copy. Hover over one of the lines, then press [Tab] key, to highlight all
boundary lines, then click when you see the dashed line outside the current
line

8. Click ( ) to end the command

9. Copy the floor to the 02 Second only

10. Go to 02 Second floor plan view

11. Select the floor you just copied, and click Edit Boundary button. Delete the line
representing the arc. Link the horizontal lines with vertical lines to form a
closed boundary. Click ( ) to end the command

12. Copy this floor to 03 Third, 04 Fourth, 05 Fifth, 06 Roof

13. We need to fix the floor of 05 Fifth, and 06 Roof

14. Go to 05 Fifth floor plan view

15. Select the floor and click Edit Boundary. Using Pick Lines, set offset = 650, and
click gridline G

16. Using Trim/Extend to Corner, trim the boundary to be closed and continuous,
also, delete the old vertical line. Click ( ) to end the command

17. Go to 06 Roof floor plan view, and repeat the steps above but with gridline H

18. Go to 3D view, this what you will see:

19. We need to create the shaft for the elevator

20. Go to T.O.F floor plan view

21. Zoom into Area between A & B, and 2 & 3

22. Start Ref Plane command, select Pick Lines tool, and set Offset = 2000mm

23. Pick A to the inside, and then pick B to the inside. Do the same thing with 2 & 3

24. This is what you will get:

25. Start Wall: Structural

26. Pick Exterior - 300mm Concrete family

27. Set Base Constraint = T.O.F, Base Offset = 0

28. Set Top Constraint = 06 Roof, Top Offset = 362mm (to go flush with the floor
thickness)

29. Set Location line = Finish Face: Interior

30. Pick Rectangle tool from Draw panel

31. Using two opposite corners of the four reference planes draw the walls of the
elevator

32. Start Structural Foundation: Slab command

33. Select 300mm Foundation Slab family

34. From Draw panel, select Pick Lines tool, set offset = 500mm

35. Pick the four outside edges of the wall, and click ( ) to end the command

36. Start Shaft command, pick rectangle tool, and draw the shaft inside the four
walls. Set Base Constraint = T.O.F, Base Offset = 0

37. Set Top Constraints = 06 Roof, and Top Offset = 370mm (or any value greater
than 362 – i.e. the thickness of the floor). Don’t forget to draw an (X) to indicate
elevator void

38. This is the final result:

39. Save and close the file
