Just get 98-99 percentile and you'll be sorted?

In 2019, I made my first attempt at CAT and

achieved a 98th percentile. But where did this
take me? Nowhere.

In my initial attempt, I failed to secure any IIM

interview calls and felt devastated, realising that
simply attaining a high percentile isn't enough.
Having a strong profile and interpersonal skills is
equally vital.

Nevertheless, I decided to try again in 2023.

However, I found myself starting preparations later
than planned. I will be forever grateful for the
recommendation that led me to Kamlendu
Choudhary Sir.

After starting mock exams, I realized I wasn't even

close to the 90th percentile. Every day became a
struggle to keep putting in the effort. But with the
support of my batch mates, friends and mentors I
kept pushing myself to persevere. Through
countless one-on-one sessions, analyzing session
mocks, and help, I was anxiously able to prepare
the best I could.

Then came the fateful exam day. While some

lamented their performance, I walked away with
optimism. However, reality hit hard when the
answer key revealed a glaring typo that cost me
dearly in the DILR section. Yet, against all odds, I
emerged with a 95.37 percentile overall, and a
98.92 in QA.

With results in hand, the next phase of the journey

began: interview calls. To my surprise, I received
calls from colleges I didn't even get when I scored
98 percentile. I received calls from esteemed
institutions like MDI Gurgaon, IIM Shillong,
NMIMS, and more.

Though some interviews left me uncertain, others

showcased my true potential.

And guess what? The hard work paid off! Fast

forward to today, I have offers from 8 colleges:
MDI Gurgaon, IIM Shillong, IIM Udaipur, IIM
Ranchi, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur, IIM Bodhgaya,
and IIM Kashipur. After much deliberation, I'm
thrilled to announce my decision to join the MDI
Gurgaon family.

If I had given up after my initial failure, I would

have missed the opportunity to join MDI Gurgaon,
meet inspiring people, and learn from the best
teachers.

I will be doing injustice to my revered teachers if I

don't mention my mentors: Kamlendu Choudhary
Sir and Shashank Joshi Sir.

You would ask why.

1) Despite the program being nearly at capacity,

Kamlendu Sir graciously took me under his wing.
For VARC preparation, Kamlendu Choudhary Sir's
lectures were a revelation, offering insights and
logic for every question tackled.

2) As I delved into the QA preparation, I was

immediately struck by the brilliance of instructors
like Shashank Joshi Sir and his unwavering
commitment to students. Both of them weren't
just mentors during scheduled sessions; they
were available 24/7 to solve doubts, ensuring no
question went unanswered.

3) This serves as a reminder to all: Don't quit.

Every great achievement was once considered
impossible.

traveling there, I noticed the surroundings

Fast forward to today, and I've successfully
converted 100% of my IIM interviews (B, L, K, I, S,

My Learnings and Tips:

1) A confident body language coupled with a

smiling face is half the job done.

2) Be comfortable conceding to your

shortcomings, own up, and never try to make
excuses for them. Showcase your willingness to
improve on them.

slight percentile difference can make a huge
impact, but not everyone gets a chance at
BLACKI/FMS, etc.
