Product Nilobit PN: Modified bitumen waterproofing membrane

Manufactured from a rich mixture of bitumen and selected
polymers blended together.
- Heat insulation board

Method of application

PRECOMMENCING MEETING:
Prior to installation, a meeting to be held with main contractor to review the installation
procedures, and co-ordination of waterproofing work with other trades. The meeting will be
conducted by the QAQC team of H.E. Engineering (pvt) Ltd and would provide details of the
installation process that will be followed for this work.

INSPECTION OF AREAS
Areas scheduled to receive the waterproofing shall be inspected to ensure that work of
preceding trades is completed satisfactorily and the area to receive the waterproofing are
acceptable for installation. If there are any areas that not satisfactory, these items will be
brought to the notice of the main contractor so that they may be rectified as required.

TOOL AND EQUIPMENT

The following Equipment’s are required during application:
a) Protective clothing: Gloves, face mask, overalls, and goggles.
b) Torch gun
c) Knife.
d) Brush, roller.
e) Tape
f) Cleaning solvents.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Surface preparation:
A sloping screed is laid to over the structural concrete with a gradient of 1:300 (or higher) to
the rainwater outlets by the main contractor/client. It is very important that the screed laid
on the structural concrete to receive the waterproofing membrane MUST CONSISTS
OF SUFFICIENT GRADIENT (SLOPE), so as to ensure that there is no water ponding
on the sheet membrane and all rainwater will be transferred to the rainwater outlets.

The sloping screed is now cleaned. If any mortar, debris and foreign matter are present on
this screed, they are to be removed by the main contractor.

A 1: 3 cement sand mortar fillet of 50mm X 50 mm thick to be laid at the intersection point
of any vertical and horizontal section such as the wall – slab edge, by the main contractor.

The surface will be cleaned to be free from dust and dirt.

Note: -

We recommend a concrete up-stand of 300mm height to be constructed around the perimeter

of the roof edge. The guard wall of brick/block work around the perimeter of the roof, to be
constructed on this concrete upstand.
Application

Bituprimer is brush applied on the levelling screed, which acts as a key coat for the torch
membrane and allowed to dry.

4mm thick torch membrane is laid on the Bituprimer applied substrate.

Each sheet is lapped 100mm to the next sheet – both at side laps and end laps.

The torch membrane laying on the horizontal surface is continued on the vertical sections and
terminated on the vertical walls as per the desired height of termination.

Application of Mixtex super / Watershield sealed at the termination point of the sheet
membrane on the vertical wall.

Pond testing

The structure will be pond tested for a minimum of 48 hours.

On Completion of the pond test

Heat insulation boards are now placed over the waterproofing membrane andloosely laid

A separation layer of polyethylene to be laid over the insulation board, maintaining a 100mm
lap at the polyethylene joint, by the main contractor.

A protective screed of reinforced concrete to be laid over the separation layer with necessary
expansion joints. Expansion joints to be filled with a sealant
Quality Assurance/ Quality control:

 The company waterproofing QAQC document will be maintained by the supervisor

from commencement of the waterproofing until the pond test.

 A pond test approval document will be maintained after inspection of the pond test.
 On commencement of the waterproofing work no materials or personal is allowed
entry into the waterproof area, until the protection layer work is completed.

Safety:

 At the time of application, adequate ventilation is required.

 Gloves will be used when mixing material
 Safety procedures as stipulated by the main contractor will be followed
