Using correct and appropriate
multimedia resources

Introduction

Have you ever tried to use different creative techniques on presenting your
ideas? Well, it is very difficult to provide an appropriate resource when it comes to
presenting details of a certain topic. Sometimes you are confused about what to use
so that you will have a good one. So, in this learning kit, you will learn the different
multi-media resources which you can use for creating a better presentation of yours,
from simple to create one!
Have fun learning and achieve the goal you wanted!

Learning Competency

Use correct and appropriate multimedia resources when orally giving

information, instructions, making explanations, and narrating events in personal or
factual recounts. (EN7OL-IV-e-3.10)

Objectives

At the end of this guided learning activity kit, you are expected to:
1. differentiate personal from factual recount;
2. determine the multi-media resources that can be used on the given
situations; and
3. write a personal or factual recount and create a presentation using
multimedia resources.

Review

In the last lesson of the first quarter, you learned how to transcode information
from linear to non-linear texts and vice-versa. Let us try if you still remember these
key points discussed previously by answering the activity that follows.

Directions: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if the statement is
incorrect.

___________1. Non-linear text is visuals by which a reader may not need to go through
in a sequential way to get the meaning of the text.

___________2. Linear text is not a common reading type that you often read from
beginning to end, sequentially.

__________3. Bar graph presents data with rectangular bars which differ in their
sizes.

__________4. Line graph which displays graphical information that changes

continuously over time.

__________5. Venn Diagram is used to illustrate proportion. It is a circular chart that

is divided into slices or portions.

Great! You are now ready for the new lesson.

Discussion

What is Multimedia Resources?

Multimedia is defined by (Marshall, 2001)

as multiple media that can be used to deliver
information digitally. It is a field with a
computer-controlled combination of text,
animation, graphics, audio, video, image, and
other forms of media. It can represent, store, and
transmits all information digitally. It also
includes interactive elements such as voice
command, mouse manipulation, text entry,
touch screen, video capture, or live participation
of the user.

Different multimedia resources can be used when orally giving information,

instructions, making explanations, and narrating events. Below is a list of various
multimedia formats used in an educational context.

1. Text and Graphics

 A slide show or presentation is a presentation of a series of still
images on a projection screen or electronic display device, typically in
a prearranged sequence. The changes may be automatic and at regular
intervals or they may be manually controlled by a presenter or the
viewer. Slide shows originally consisted of a series of
individual photographic slides projected onto a screen with a slide
projector. A slide show may be a presentation of images purely for their
visual interest or artistic value, sometimes unaccompanied by
description or text, or it may be used to clarify or reinforce information,
ideas, comments, solutions, or suggestions that are presented
verbally. Example: Powerpoint presentation
 The diagram is a plan, sketch, drawing, or outline to show how
something works, or show the relationships between the parts of a
whole.

Example:

3|Page
 Infographic is a visual
representation of information
or data.

Example:

is-an-infographic/

2. Audio
 The podcast is a multi-media digital file distributed over the Internet to
be watched and listened to on a computer, iPod, or another device.
Examples: Recorded audios of an interview, guest interview, narrative
storytelling
3. Video
 Talking Head are people who appear in television, discussion programs,
and interviews to give their opinions about a topic. Example: Journalism
 The animation is a method of photographing successive drawings,
models, or even puppets, to create an illusion of movement in a
sequence. Example: Early cartoons
4. Others

 Webinars and Online Meetings - An online meeting is a collaboration

among a relatively small group of people. It is an open forum for people to
share their ideas on the meeting agenda. A webinar, on the other hand, is a
presentation to a larger group. While there are opportunities for audience
participation in a webinar, the features need to be used strategically.

 Blogs (a shortened version of “weblog”) is an online journal or

informational website displaying information in reverse chronological
order, with the latest posts appearing first, at the top. It is a platform
where a writer or a group of writers share their views on an individual
subject.

Example:

4|Page

Interactive Content is any type of content such as calculators, assessments

and interactive infographics, white papers, and videos that requires and
encourages users to actively engage with it rather than passively consume it.
Examples: Interactive Quizzes, Surveys, and Polls, Interactive E-books

What is a Recount?
A recount retells an experience or an event that happened in the past. The
purpose of a recount can be to inform, entertain or to reflect and evaluate. It can
focus on a specific section of an event or retell the entire story. A recount should
always be told in the order that things happened.

Types of Recount
Personal recount retells an activity the writer has been personally involved
in and may be used to build the relationship between the writer and the reader.
Example: anecdote, diary journal, personal letter. These usually retell an event
that the writer was personally involved in.

Factual/Newspaper recount reports the particulars of an incident by

reconstructing the factual information. Example: police reconstruction of an
accident, historical recount, biographical and autobiographical recounts. A
factual recount is an objective recount of a true event by someone not personally
involved in the situation. Its purpose is either to inform, entertain, or both.

What is the difference between Personal and Factual Recounts?

A personal recount is a personal moment that you experienced. While a

Factual recount is an objective recount of a true event by someone not personally
involved in the situation and its purpose is either to inform, entertain, or both.

Elements of an Effective Recount

Structure

Orientation - explains the who, what, when, whereof the experience in your
introduction.

Focus- only significant events should be included.

Chronology- events are described in the sequence in which they occurred.
Organization- Relevant information is grouped in paragraphs.
Insight- Include personal comments, opinions, or interpretations of the
recounted experience or event.

Points to Consider Before Writing

 What are you going to tell your audience? What are you recounting?

 What information will the audience need early in the text?

 What are the important events or parts of the recount you want to
describe? And what order will they occur in?

 How will you let your readers know the order of events? And what
language will we use to link them?

 What other information may be useful to include?

 How will you conclude your recount?

Acknowledgment

The Schools Division of Zambales would like to express its heartfelt

gratitude to the following, who in one way or the other, have contributed to
the successful preparation, development, quality assurance, printing, and
distribution of the Quarter 2 Guided Learning Activity Kits (GLAKs) in all
learning areas across grade levels as a response to providing the learners
with developmentally-appropriate, contextualized and simplified learning
resources with most essential learning competencies (MELCs)-based
activities anchored on the principles of guided learning and explicit
instruction:
First, the Learning Resources (LR) Development Team composed of the
writers and graphic artists for devoting much of their time and exhausting
their best efforts to produce these indispensable learning kits used for the
implementation of learning delivery modalities.
Second, the content editors, language reviewers, and layout evaluators
making up the Division Quality Assurance Team (DQAT) for having carefully
evaluated all GLAKs to ensure quality and compliance to DepEd standards;
Third, the Provincial Government of Zambales, for unceasingly
extending its financial assistance to augment the funds for the printing of
these learning resources for use by learners and parents at home;
Fourth, the teacher-advisers and subject teachers, in close
coordination with the school heads, for their weekly distribution and
retrieval of the GLAKs and for their frequent monitoring of the learners’
progress through various means; and
Finally, the parents and other home learning facilitators for giving the
learners the needed guidance and support for them to possibly accomplish
the tasks and for gradually helping them become independent learners.
To deliver learning continuity in this challenging circumstance would
not be possible without your collective effort and strong commitment to
serving our Zambaleño learners.
Again, our sincerest thanks!

The Management Team
