When the child approaches the second stage after the age of eleven, he starts thinking
like a rational human being. They turn hypocrites and crafty in nature. They preach and

The poem “A Photograph” is a very short poem that contains nineteen lines only. Like all
other short poems, it boasts of thematic unity and simplicity of language. In the poem the
poet recalls her mother who is not alive. She gives expression to her inner love and affection
towards her mother. Her mother’s photograph helps her to tell about her mother’s beauty
and her attitude towards life. Her mother’s death came as a great loss to her, and she hardly
reconciled to this loss of hers.
The poem is a very simple one. Except for a few phrases all words used are very simple.
The readers do not find any difficulty understanding the poem. Apart from the simplicity of
language the poet has used poetic devices to enhance poetic quality. We find in the poem
‘alliteration’, ‘Oxymoron’, ‘Epithet. Etc. These poetic devices render the poem a unique
piece of poetry.
I completely agree with the preceding statement. Drastic measures are required in extreme
situations. The Pearson family’s thoughtless, selfish, andspoilt members do not understand
the language of love and affection. Mrs. Pearson, with Mrs. Fitzgerald’s bold and
domineering personality and toughness, awakens them to their own predicament. Doris is
the first to learnthe importance of civility and courtesy. Her boyfriend’s criticism comes as
asurprise to her, perhaps even more so than her orders to iron the yellow silk dress. Doris
has tearful eyes. Cyril is also instructed to assist himself. The mother’s declaration that she,
too, will now work forty hours a week, take weekends off, and go somewhere fun comes as
a surprise. Her husband’s ego is punctured when she tells him how people at the clubmake
fun of him. Finally, all three members gather and express their willingness to obey the
mother’s command.

Andrew Manson was a young dedicated and hardworking doctor. He never failed in his
calling. He was full of ideas and judged every case on merit. He was quite mature and
understanding of his patients. When torn between two conflicts, he wasted no time in
taking the right and prompt decision. In spite of his personal problems Dr Andrew
doesn't hesitate to accompany Joe Morgan whose wife is expecting a baby after twenty
long married years. When he realised that the old lady feared that the doctor might leave
the case, he assured her. When he realised that the case demanded his immediate
attention, he declared that he would not leave the place till was over. He is a clear-headed
person, who can resolve any issue. He doesn't hesitate to do any experiment, so he takes a
chance to save the baby by plunging him into the icy and hot waters turn by turn. Apart
from that massaging and rubbing the chest with a towel. Thereby saving the child from
the clutches of cruel death.
