1. Select Join or create a team. This is where you create your own team, or discover
existing ones.
Create a channel
By default, every team gets a General channel, which is a good channel to use for
announcements and information the whole team needs. To add more:

1. If you're a team owner, go to the team name in the teams list and click More
options > Add member.
2. Start typing a name, distribution list, security group, or Microsoft 365 group to add
to your team. You can also add people outside your organization as guests by typing
their email addresses.
3. When you're done adding members, select Add. You can make someone a team
owner by selecting the down arrow next to the word Member. There can be multiple
owners in a team. For a deeper look at roles and permissions.
4. Select Close. People you add to a team will receive an email letting them know they
are now a member of your team and the team will show up in their teams list.

1. To create a standard channel, start in the team list. Find the team name and
click More options > Add channel. You can also click Manage team, and add a
channel in the Channels tab.
You can create up to 200 channels over the life of a team. That number includes channels
you create and later delete.

If you want a focused place to discuss sensitive information such as budgets, resourcing,
strategic positioning and so on, create a private channel for your team. Only owners or
members of the private channel can access it.
1. Go to the team you want to create the private channel for and choose More
options > Add channel.
2. Enter a name and description for your channel.
3. Under Privacy, select the down arrow on the right, and then select Private –
Accessible only to a specific group of people within the team.
4. Select Add. This adds a private channel to the team.

1. In the channel, select Format under the box where you type your message.
2. At the top of the box that opens, choose a message type: New
conversation or Announcement.
3. Select Post in multiple channels > Select channels.
4. Choose the channels to post in or use search to find a channel. You can post
wherever you're a member.

5. Type your message and select Send. This posts your message to the selected
channels.
6. Edit a cross-post
You can edit your original message in a cross-post anytime by selecting More
actions in the post, and then choosing Edit .
From here, you can also add channels to post in, or you can remove channels from
the list. Select Post in multiple channels >Select channels to find a channel to add.
To remove a channel, just delete it from the To field.
Finally, for any post you create, you can make it a cross-post by clicking More
actions , then choosing Edit > Post in multiple channels > Select
channels, and then selecting the channels you want to add.
1. In a channel, under a message box, select Attach files. Select how you want to attach
it:
Recent: Attach recent files.
Browse Teams and Channels: Attach files from a team or channel.
OneDrive: Select single or multiple files from a OneDrive for Business
account.
Upload from my computer: Upload files from your device.

Every channel has a Files tab. You'll find everything that's been shared there.

1. To pin a chat, select More options > Pin. The chat appears in the Pinned list.

1. Select Video call or Audio call to call someone directly from a chat.
1. Select Audio call or Video call to start a call from a 1:1 or group chat.
2. In a 1:1 chat, select More options (the dropdown arrow) next to Audio call, and
choose another number to call if it's available.
3. In the search box, type "/call" and who you'd like to reach. Press Enter to start the
call.
4. Hover over someone's profile photo anywhere in Teams, and select Audio call from
their contact card.
1. From your Calendar, select Join on a meeting before it's started, or one that's in-
progress.
2. Turn on your camera, select Background filters, and choose how you'd like to
appear:
Select a custom background.
Select Blur.

Don't have the Teams app? You can still join a Teams meeting.
You can also use a dial-in number and conference ID from the email to call in.

Select Calendar to view your appointments and meetings for the day or work week.
Select a meeting invite to see what the meeting's about, who's attending, and to
respond to the meeting.

5. Enter names in the Invite people box to add them to the meeting.
Note: To invite someone outside your organization, type in their email address and
they'll get an invite to join as a guest — even if they don't have Microsoft Teams.
6. See everyone's availability in the Attendees list and, if needed, choose a suggested
time or select Scheduling assistant to see more available times in a calendar view.
7. Under Select a channel to meet in, select the drop-down arrow to manage your
meeting's privacy settings:
Select None to keep your meeting private.
Select a channel to open the meeting to team members.
If your meeting gets posted in a channel, it'll appear under the Posts tab. Team
members can set agendas, share files, or add comments.
In Microsoft Teams, you can show your desktop, a specific app, a whiteboard,
or a presentation in a meeting.
1. Select Share content and choose if you want to share your computer audio.
2. Select what you want to share:
Screen lets you show everything on your screen.
PowerPoint Live lets you share a PowerPoint presentation.
Microsoft Whiteboard and Freehand by Invision lets you share a whiteboard
where participants can sketch together.
Window lets you share an open window like a specific app you have open.
3. After you select what you want to show, a red border surrounds what you're sharing.
Meeting participants won't see any notifications that might come in.
4. Select Stop sharing to stop showing your screen.

Looking for all apps? Select Apps on the left side of Teams to search and browse for
apps available to your organization. Discover new apps based on Categories. Some apps
require subscriptions or signing-in.
