Text: The Spread of Islam in Africa ‫اﻟﻤ ِﻐﻴﻠِﻲ‬


َ ‫ٌﻣ َﺤ ﱠﻤﺪ اﺑﻦ َﻋﺒ ُﺪ اﻟ َﻜ ِﺮﻳﻢ‬
Muhammad ibn Abd al-Karim al-Maghili is an Algerian scholar and
influential figure in the development of Islam. He was born around 1440 in
Tlemcen, His impact extended across North and West Africa, where he played
a significant role in converting Africans to Islam among the Hausa, Fulani,
and Tuareg peoples. (Sahara and West Africa)
In his childhood, Muammad was taught Quran and basic religion
sciences by his father Abdulkarim. He also learnt Tafseer and Fiqh in
Telemcen. After that, he travelled to Bejaia and then to Algiers to study
advanced religion sciences.
While he was living in Tuat (Adrar), he was trying to reduce the Jewish
negative domination on local people .Since he was preaching to people, he
published many books like "Fath Al-Mubeen" and "Tafseer Al-Fatiha". His
writings influenced the Islamization of West Africa including (Niger, Mali,
Nigeria, Burkina Faso) leaving a lasting heritage.
Al-Maghili’s contributions continue to resonate, making him an
outstanding figure in the history of Islam in North and West Africa. Before
he died in 1504 in Adrar, Algeria, he performed pilgrimage to Mecca. His life
and works are documented in various sources.

Khalid ibn al-Walid, born in 592 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, was a Companion
of the Prophet and a Commander of the Muslim Army. His military career was
marked by significant achievements. Notably, he led the Muslim forces to victory
in the Battle of Wallaja against the Persian Army and played a crucial role in the
decisive Battle of Yarmouk against the Roman Army. Khalid’s strategic brilliance
and leadership contributed to the conquest of Persia and Sham (Syria). He passed
away in 642 in Homs, Syria, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most remarkable
military commanders of his time.
