12. Entry Requirement Matriculation/ Asasi Sains UM leavers:
i) University Requirements
 Passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia/ equivalent with good grades.

 Minimum of a credit in Bahasa Melayu/ Bahasa Malaysia at SPM

level/ equivalent.
 Minimum CGPA of 2.00 at Matriculation KPM/ Asasi Sains level and a

Pass in all subjects.


 Minimum of Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

ii) Programme Requirements


 Minimum of a Grade C (2.00) in Mathematics

 Minimum of Grade C (2.00) in at least ONE (1) of the following

subjects:
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Biology
 Minimum of grade 3B in English Language at SPM level/equivalent

 Minimum of a credit in Mathematics at SPM level/ equivalent

 Passed MEdSI exam and interview conducted by the university

STPM holders:

i) University Requirements
 Passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia/ equivalent with good grades.

 Minimum of a credit in Bahasa Melayu/ Bahasa Malaysia at SPM

level/ equivalent.
 Passed STPM with a minimum of:

ii) Programme Requirements


 Minimum of Grade C (NGMP 2.00) in Mathematics T and
 Minimum of Grade C (2.00) in at least ONE (1) of the following

subjects:
- Advanced Mathematics T
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Biology
 Minimum of a credit in Mathematics at SPM level/ equivalent
 Minimum of grade 3B in English Language at SPM level/equivalent
 Passed MEdSI exam and interview conducted by the university

Diploma holders:

i) University Requirements
 Passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia/ equivalent with a minimum of a credit
in Bahasa Melayu/ Bahasa Malaysia.
 Possess a Diploma or other equivalent qualifications recognized by
the Malaysian Government and approved by the University Senate
And
 Minimum of Band 4 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET).
ii) Programme Requirements
 Possess a Diploma in a field related to TESL with a minimum CGPA
of 2.50 from UTM
or any recognized institution
Other qualification with a minimum CGPA of 2.50, related to TESL,
which is recognized by the Malaysian Government and approved by
the University Senate
Or,
 For candidates with a CGPA of between 2.30 and 2.50, a minimum of
2 years' working experience in a related filed, is required,
 Minimum of a credit in Mathematics at SPM/ equivalent or a minimum
of a Grade C in any Mathematics subject at Diploma level
 Minimum of grade 3B in English Language at SPM level/equivalent
 Passed MEdSI exam and interview conducted by the university
 Candidates are required to submit their Diploma examination
transcript (first semester right through the final semester) to UTM.
 Candidates are also required to submit a copy of their Diploma or
letter verifying the y have completed their studies.

Note:
The year of entry and actual duration of study is subject to the exemption of
credits approved by UTM.

2. apply their knowledge and skills of the different approaches, techniques and methodologies in the teaching of the
English language into their professional settings.

17. Programme structures and features, curriculum and award requirements
The course is offered in full-time mode and is based on a 2-Semester Academic Year with subjects offered according to
the schedule below:
 Assessment: <50% written examination and >50% (written and oral) coursework given through application of

theories, in-class practice and project/term paper or short research


 Award requirements:

Students are required to fulfil the following:


- Achieve a total of 126 credit hours with a minimum CPA of 2.0
- Pass teaching practical (equivalent to 8 credit hours)
- Complete the undergraduate project (equivalent to 6 credit hours)

19. Career Prospects


Graduates of the programme have the choice to work as teachers in government or private schools, language trainers
or lecturers in local Polytechnics, public and private institutes of higher learning, translators and editors of publishing
companies and journalists or reporters of newspapers.

20. Cross Campus Learning


Students are given the opportunity to register for some subjects which are equivalent to the ones offered in the
programme at some participating local universities. The grades and credits attained (up to 1/3 of the total credits of the
curriculum) are transferable.
