Lesson Plan: Introduction to Badminton

Year Level: First Year College

Subject: Physical Education

Duration: 2 hours

Objectives:

1. Students will understand the basic rules and techniques of badminton.

2. Students will develop fundamental skills in serving, rallying, and scoring.

3. Students will engage in cooperative and competitive gameplay, promoting teamwork and
sportsmanship.

Materials Needed:

1. Badminton rackets

2. Shuttlecocks (plastic or feathered)

3. Badminton net

4. Court markings or cones

5. Whiteboard and markers

6. Stopwatch or timer
Lesson Outline:

I. Introduction (15 minutes)

- Greet students and introduce the topic of the lesson: Badminton.

- Discuss the objectives of the lesson.

- Share the importance of physical activity and the benefits of playing badminton.

II. Basic Rules and Techniques (30 minutes)

- Explain the rules of badminton including scoring, serving, faults, and court boundaries.

- Demonstrate proper grip, stance, and footwork for serving and rallying.

- Use diagrams and videos to illustrate key techniques.

- Allow time for students to ask questions and clarify any misunderstandings.

III. Skill Development (45 minutes)

- Divide students into pairs or small groups.

- Assign each group to a designated area of the court.

- Guide students through practice sessions focusing on serving, clearing, smashing, and
dropping.

- Provide individual feedback and correction as needed.

- Rotate students through different positions and exercises to ensure a well-rounded


understanding of the game.

- Emphasize the importance of communication, strategy, and sportsmanship during gameplay.

faced.
