Shop Safety Rules

• Do not operate any

piece of equipment
unless you have been
trained by the
teacher.
• Safety glasses must
be always worn!
Shop Safety Rules

• Proper clothing must be worn when

working in the shop –no coats, no
baggy clothing, no loose sleeve cuffs.
• Long hair must be tied back, and all
jewelry should be removed.
• Absolutely no ear buds, pods, or
headphones in or dangling!
• No horseplay – running, throwing
objects, or inappropriate behaviour
will not be tolerated.

• Transport sharp tools carefully –

not pointing towards yourself or
anyone else.
• Clean up shop at the end of the
period.
• All tools must be retuned to their
proper location.
• All benches and machines need
to be swept off, and the floor
swept prior to being dismissed.

• Get help or help others when

an operation requires more
than one person to complete
the task like cutting big pieces
of wood.
• Never distract someone who
is operating a tool or machine.
• Report all injuries or accidents
immediately to the teacher, no
matter how minor.

• Concentrate on what you are

doing when operating any piece
of equipment.
• Make all adjustments prior to
turning on a piece of equipment.
• Always use safety “Push sticks”
where possible.
• Never lean over a machine –
always have a firm footing and
balance.

equipment if the guard is
missing or is not in proper
working order – let teacher know
immediately.
• Never walk away from a
machine while it is still on or
running; wait for it to come to a
stop.
• Do not crowd around someone
operating a machine.
