I like to think of the packages I send to friends as gifts which they get to unwrap and this
incredibly easy letter fold helps turn a piece of paper into something special. When my penpals
add a personal touch to their letters, it makes me feel like I know them that much better
through the creativity they show. These unique additions don’t have to be big, it’s the simplest
things that show care and attention to detail such a DIY envelopes and a few little goodies
added to the letters.

For more ideas, check out our list of 9 origami letter folds sure to impress your penpal and this
tutorial for DIY pocket envelopes!

Step 1
Fold the paper lengthwise so that the corners meet. Lightly crease the outer edges to mark the
midpoint.

Two light creases to mark the center of the paper

Step 2
Fold both the shorter ends of the paper into the middle using the creases from step one as
reference.
Step 3
Repeat step 1 with the now folded paper, bringing the shorter ends together and making a light
crease on the outer edge.
Step 4
Like in step 2, fo ld one edge into the middle using the crease as a guide. Fold the other
edge past the midpoint and towards the opposite outer edge, leaving just a little room.

Fold one end into the middle

The longer edge will fold almost all the way over but not quite

To finish the folded letter, slip the larger flap into the smaller one.

Open the smaller flap a little

Slide the larger flap into the smaller
To add little goodies like a bag of tea inside your letter, slip it under the two flaps in the middle
of the paper between steps 2 and 3. Check out this post for more little gifts you can send your
penpal and try making your own envelopes.
Seal with a sticker, wax, or washi tape if you like. Just be sure it will open up easily without
ripping the note.
