C. Activity 1. The teacher will divide the class into three groups.
2. Recall standards and safety measures when doing the
activity.
3. Distribute activity cards.
4. Have them choose their leader, recorder and reporter.
5. Present the rubrics for doing group activity.
6. Supervise every group.
D. Analysis 1. Allow each group to present their output.
2. Analysis and discussion of pupils’ answers.
3. Ask questions to develop higher order thinking skills.
4. The teacher will check and rate the groups’ outputs

E. Abstraction Separating mixtures are done to make substances more

useful in our daily lives. Examples are:
 Through Filtration coconut milk can be separated from
the remains of grated coconut. This can be used in
cooking ginataang gulay, maja blanca, biko, suman
etc.
 Sand and pebbles are separated by sieving, sand can
be used as construction materials while pebbles can be
used in landscaping
 Through evaporation salt is produced. Salt is used as
preservatives and additives to the food we eat and
consume daily.
 To make the rice clean, winnowing is used to separate
rice from dirt and rice chaff. This is also used to
separate mongo seeds from its cover.
 Distillation is widely used in laboratories, refineries
and chemical and pharmaceutical research. Alcoholic
beverages, purified/clean water and different kinds of
fuel are examples of products of distillation.
 Handpicking is used to separate biodegradable and
non-biodegradable materials.
 Tea can be separated from tea leaves through filtration
using a strainer.

F. Application Fill in the organizer how you can relate the benefits of
separating mixture to real life situations.

Benefits of
Separating mixture to
real life situations.

G. Practical Applications Cite specific situations in your home where you can relate
of Concepts and Skills the benefits of separating mixtures to real life situation.
in Daily Living Possible Ans. Cleaning or washing of rice using decantation.
Cooking of food through evaporation. Segregating waste
materials through picking to choose recyclable and non-
recyclable wastes. Drying of clothes through evaporation.
Sifting of flour for baking bread, cakes etc. Preparation of
fresh fruit juices, teas and coffee using filtration.
H. Generalization Are there benefits in separating mixtures? How can you
relate these things to our real life situations?
Possible ans. To remove impurities and unwanted particles
like purifying water.
To get important substances like separating diesel and
petroleum gas from crude oil or butter separated from milk. To
obtain pure substances like separating salt water to get salt.
I. Evaluation
