TEACHER NOTES: OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW
The following graphic organizers and activities have been designed for you to
use with the different needs of your students.
• Limited text to keep the design simple and clear. Those pages with more text
are for more independent work.
• The boxes on many pages can be used for illustrations or writing, depending
on your needs.
• The purple text on the 'Teacher Notes' pages is specific to the book. The ideas
are my interpretation, but they give you a head start.
• Some pages have book-related text and images (e.g., cause & effect).

BOOK SUMMARY
The author, David Shannon, wrote No, David! Based on his own writings and
drawing as a young boy and all the mischief he got up to. As a consequence of
his actions, all he heard his mother say was “no, David!”

The book takes the reader through everything he does that upset his mother. This
includes dragging mud into the house. Making lots of noise, leaving a lot of mess
and flooding the bathroom.

David doesn’t seem to take on board his mother’s words until he accidentally
breaks a vase with his baseball bat. His mother makes him sit in the corner to
reflect on his behaviour. With tears in his eyes, he apologises to his mother and
reaches out for a hug. She takes him in her arms and tells him she loves him.
