I have attached the instructions for your consult and procedure on March 31. Please open and
review the attachment for time/date/location and prep. I understand there is a shortage of fleet
enemas so you may have to look around at more than one pharmacy. Or call ahead to some
pharmacies. If you cannot find the enemas, you can use a water enema – you will need to get a
kit – and you can speak to a pharmacist about the product and which is the best for you.
Due to sedation, you need a pick up person. Your pick up person will not be able to wait at the
GI Clinic due to COVID restrictions. Please have their number handy and they will be notified on
when to come back to GI Clinic to get you.
Once finished at the GI Clinic, I have scheduled you to see Dr. Raval in our clinic at 2pm. For
this, you need to come to the other side of the hospital called Burrard Building. We are on the
3rd floor – Outpatient Clinic. Easiest way to find this is to find the gift shop at the hospital and
take the elevator that is across from the gift shop up to the 3rd floor and follow the signs to
Outpatient Clinic.
I will send you a link from Thrive Health to do an on line medical questionnaire. I will also send a
map to GI Clinic through this platform.
Thanks,
Anne, MOA

DAY OF PROCEDURE
• 2 Fleet enemas in the morning prior to coming to hospital (at least 2 hours before
leaving home) -
Do 1 fleet enema and then the other ½ hour later
• The Fleet enemas can be obtained without a prescription at the drugstore under “laxatives” (ask
the pharmacist for help).
• The procedure takes 10 to 15 minutes.
• There is slight discomfort when gas is blown into the bowel in order to see the lining of the bowel.
• There is a very small risk of causing a hole in or bleeding from the bowel due to the procedure
(1 in 1,000 risk). If this happens you will be kept in the hospital and possibly require surgery to fix
the hole or bleeding.
• The vast majority of patients experience no problems from the procedure.
