Acrylic

 Meaning – this type of painting medium that is mixed with a water-soluble resin. It is used to
create layer of paint in all kind of surface.
 Description – this is a fast-drying paint made of pigment suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion
and plasticizers, silicone oils, defoamers stabilizers or metal soaps. They are water-based but it
becomes water resistant when it dries up.

Encaustic

 Meaning – Greek word which means “to heat” or “burn in”. This is a type of painting that uses
wax.
 Description – This artworks are done using pigmented wax on a substrate such as wood panel,
and are fused or burned in through the use of heat source.

Fresco

 Meaning – a painting rapidly done in water color on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling, so that the
colors penetrate the paster and become fixed as it dries.
 Description – form of a mural painting which earth pigments are painted directly on fresh, wet,
lime plaster. As the plaster dries, a chemical process bonds the pigment and plaster together.

Gouache

Magna Paint

 Meaning – Magna is the brand name of an acrylic resin paint, developed by Leonard Bocour and
sold by Bocour Artist Colors, Inc. in 1947. Very different from modern acrylic paint, as it is
composed of pigments ground in an acrylic resin brought into emulsion through the use of

Pastel

 Meaning – pastel dry drawing medium is executed with fragile, finger size-sticks. This medium is
made of powdered pigments combines with a minimum of nongreasy binder.
 Description – Pastel is fabricated from one or several finely ground pigments, a pulverized inert
white filler such as ground calcium carbonate or kaolin, and a minuscule amount of binder such
as gum tragacanth. The powdered ingredients are combined and rolled into sticks of colored
powder, the consistency of which must be sufficiently cohesive to allow them to be grasped
between the fingers, yet crumble when stroked across a support. Pastel is usually drawn on
paper, which must have a slight texture or “tooth” to grab and hold the medium on its surface .

 Meaning – painting executed with pigment ground in a water-miscible


medium. The word tempera originally came from the verb temper, “to
bring to a desired consistency.”
 Description - True tempera is made by mixture with the yolk of fresh eggs,
although manuscript illuminators often used egg white and some easel
