Batteries

Battery is a device that stores chemical energy and converts it into electrical energy. It
consists of two electrodes, an electrolyte and a separator.

Type of Batteries
Batteries have two types, namely Primary batteries and Secondary batteries. First,
Primary batteries (disposable), usually have a lower energy density than secondary batteries.
Once used, they cannot be recharged. Second, Secondary batteries usually have a higher
energy density than primary batteries and can be recharged many times.

Material of Batteries
The materials used in batteries vary depending on the type of battery. However, there
are some common materials that are used in most batteries.
 Cathode: The cathode is the positive electrode in a battery. It is typically made of a
metal oxide, such as lithium cobalt oxide, nickel cobalt manganese oxide, or lithium
iron phosphate.
 Anode: The anode is the negative electrode in a battery. It is typically made of
graphite, which is a form of carbon.
 Electrolyte: The electrolyte is a substance that allows the flow of electrons between
the cathode and the anode. It is typically made of a liquid or gel that contains ions.
 Separator: The separator is a thin layer of material that prevents the cathode and
anode from touching each other. It is typically made of a polymer, such as
polypropylene.

Function of Batteries
The main function of the battery is to provide electrical power to the device. Batteries
do this by converting chemical energy into electrical energy. The chemical reactions in a
battery involve the flow of electrons from one material to another, via an external circuit. The
flow of electrons provides an electric current that can be used to do work.
Here are some specific functions of the battery:
o To provide electric power to start the engine in the car.
o To power portable electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops and tablets.
o To power medical devices such as pacemakers and insulin pumps.
o For lighting toys, tools and other household appliances.

Applications of Batteries
Portable electronics, Electric vehicles, Stationary storage, Power tools, and Medical
devices.

Conclusion
Batteries are an essential part of our modern world. They provide power for a wide
variety of devices and applications. The future of batteries is bright, with new developments
promising even greater performance and efficiency. I hope this PowerPoint presentation was
