 ABOUT US. 2
Founded on 24 November 1856, the
Indian Institute of Engineering Science
and Technology, Shibpur is the 2nd
oldest Engineering Institute of India.
Undergoing 6 different names in its 164
years of heritage. IIEST is a public
technical university recognized as an
“Institute of National Importance” under
MHRD and was ranked 27 by NIRF 2021
rankings.

It is also one of the recognized institutes in the “Council of National

Institutes of Technology”. It is one of the premier institutes for carrying out
research in India and this place beholds a serene and calm environment
which helps students to work more passionately towards their dreams and
aspirations.
The Department of Computer Science and
Technology started its journey in 1982 with a vision
to provide a place for innovation and to evolve as a
center of excellence in research, and consultancy,
integration of basic concepts to develop products
and services for the benefit of the industry and
society at large.

At present, it has 11 excellent faculty members and over 300 students

involved in the 3 degrees the department offers B.Tech, M.Tech, Dual
Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech). The department specializes in diverse domains of
research ranging from VLSI Design, Image and Signal Processing, Cyber
Security to recently evolving areas of Wireless Networks, Internet-of-
Things, and Machine Learning.

The laboratory is an integral part of our course
structure which helps the students gain insight and
real-world understanding of subjects/courses. It
helps the students to keep better coordination with
the subject they learned in their theory courses and
give space for their innovations. The Department of
Computer Science and Technology is equipped with
3 computer labs, 2 electronics lab, 1 research labs,
and 1 PG lab. The computer labs of the department
can accommodate 100 students. The labs are well
equipped with all the electrical equipment,
hardware, and all required software is installed on
the computer. This makes the learning procedure
easier and interesting.

The computer labs are used by students for various

laboratory subjects which include Data Structures
and Algorithms, Programming, Computer Graphics,
Operating Systems, Database Management,
Algorithms, Computer Networks, Software
Engineering, Machine Learning, Information and
System Security, and Internet Technology
laboratories. The Electronics Lab provides essential
practical knowledge about various laboratory
subjects which includes Digital Logic and Circuit
Design, Communication Systems, Computer
Organization, and Architecture, and Microprocessor
and Microcontroller Laboratories.
