For most of his time with Radiohead, Jonny has kept Radiohead

Thom Yorke
his pedals on two side-by-side flightcase boards. While
Jonny
one might expect the pedals to be connected from right Greenwood

to left, since pedals have inputs on the right side and Colin
Greenwood
outputs on the left, Jonny generally connects his pedals Ed O'Brien
from left to right. But there are some exceptions to that Phil Selway

as well. If Jonny chose this arrangement in part to Friends and Collaborators

BOSS SD-1 in mid-1995, leading to the two-pedalboard About

arrangement which he’s used consistently with

Radiohead ever since.
One could roughly describe the setup as having
modulation and pitch pedals on the left board, and
overdrive and time-based effects on right board. With
Jonny’s left-to-right wiring, all of the modulation effects
are connected from left to right, and all of the
modulation effects come before all of the distortions and
delays. But things are a little more complicated on the
distortion/delay board. The output from modulation/pitch
board is connected to input of the BOSS LS2. From
there, the signal splits into two paths, which Jonny uses
the LS2 to choose between. One is his original “heavy
distortion” setup, with a Marshall Shredmaster
distortion, a volume pedal, and Fender Eighty-Five amp.
That’s the setup used for most of the Radiohead’s first
two albums. The other signal chain is a more versatile
setup, with a mid-gain overdrive, a delay, a reverb, and a
looper running into a Vox AC30 amp. In this
arrangement, the LS2 lets Jonny switch from blistering
high-gain solos to ambient mid-gain echos with the
press of a single switch. As one might expect, since Kid
A Jonny has relied almost exclusively on the path
connected to his AC30, and mainly uses the path
connected to the Eighty-Five for performing older songs.

This pedalboard was used for Radiohead performances

during a break in the recording of OK Computer, so it is
most likely the same setup used on that album.
