1. Course Title: Usrah in Action 1

4. Course Synopsis: This course intends to increase students’ awareness and knowledge on
their duties and responsibilities as Muslim in relation to Farḍ Kifāyah practices and skills as
well as translating the concept of community engagement through community profiling and
mapping. Inputs in this course will be delivered through dialectical lectures, discussion, and
experiential learning by students.

5. SAF Elements: This course intends to translate the knowledge and understanding of
sustainable development among students into actions on the ground. Through the course
activities and assessment, students will be prepared to learn to live together with the
community, while preparing themselves to be a balanced graduate, carrying the role of
vicegerent (Khalifah) and contributes to the society, actualizing the spirit of Rahmatan lil
‘alamin.

the whole semester and the continuation of the
project in Usrah in Action 2
2 1) Dialectical lecture on Islam and Community 2.5
Engagement with the following topics:
• Farḍ Kifāyah and its Component
• Sustainability Concept in Islam

The discussion will be focusing on:
• Community Engagement vs Community
Empowerment vs Community Transformation

2) To ensure that all students’ group to identify their


specific community to be profiled
• Preliminary contact
• Online Investigation / background search
• Lecturers to ensure valid community title/project

• Method of Community Profiling

community engagement

Theme: Community Mapping and Issues

1) Presentation of the findings during community


engagement which includes :
• Mapping of the community (socioeconomic
demographic)
• Sustainable development issues in the area
9- 12 Community Engagement 2: 10

1) Students to conduct or assist in managing


community event such as Janazah management,
Rewang, slaughtering etc.
2) The event should be collaboratively organized with
the community and may involve other interested
parties.

Theme: Proposed Solution

1) Presentation of proposed solution projects for the


unsustainable development issues identifies in the
area. Students will carry out and implement the
proposed projects in Usrah in Action 2.
