o Green roofs are designed to replicate the natural growing environment for plants,
and as such comprise a layer of vegetation installed over a waterproofing system
on a flat or gently sloping roof. They naturally store water in reservoir pockets,
making it available to plants through the process of evaporation.
An extra layer of soil and plants helps to regulate the heat. In the summer it
absorbs excess heat.
Both impact noises such as rain and environmental noises are absorbed by the
soil.

o Deep gravel roof that provides dynamic insulations as a consequence of the

gravel being heated by the sun and warm air percolating upwards against the
direction of heat flow.

o Variable Refrigerant Flow - VRF that will operate with significantly less pump
power at part loads than conventional constant volume pumping.
Designed for large commercial applications, VRF systems have a capacity of up
to 90HP. With the ability to operate and individually control up to 64 indoor units,
it can efficiently modulate the refrigerant flow and cooling load to minimize
energy consumption by up to 60%.
Key Features

o Permeable Pavements a type of porous surface made up of tiny open pores that
allow water to soak through. Concrete, asphalt, and open pavers are all classed
as types of permeable pavement often used for sidewalks, parking lots,
and driveways. Permeable pavement also helps balance out temperatures in hot
and cold weather. Permeable pavement reduces the concentration of
pollutants physically (in the pavement or soil), chemically (by bacteria breaking
down pollutants), or biologically (by trapping them in gaps between pavers).

Another benefit is that the pavement is made with recycled materials.

Manufacturers can use byproducts — such as slag cement from iron
manufacturers — to make up the concrete, reducing the amount that ends up in
a landfill.
Permeable pavement also helps balance out temperatures in hot and cold
weather. Since water seeps through the pavement, there is less on the surface to
form ice, making surfaces safer for walking and driving.
Alternatively, in summer months, the circulation of precipitation through the
pavement helps keep the surfaces cooler. Sa parking area yung pavers block

o Precast Concrete Precast products such as panels or slabs are less expensive
than cast-in-place concrete slabs. construction projects include structures like
floors, walls, and concrete frames. There are many advantages to using precast
concrete, which include neater working areas, reduced wastage, durability,
enhanced construction safety, and many more.. Precast uses little water during
production and hardly any at the construction site. Quick erection minimizes
noise and
pollution impact on the neighborhood. At the same time, the site remains clean
and in order because precast elements are ready to install, and storage need is
negligible. The wall panels, typically 125mm to 150mm thick, are non-load
bearing and can be flat or custom-made. A wide range of finishes and patterns
are available. The precast slabs are typically 120 cm wide with standard
thicknesses normally between 15 cm and 50 cm. Reinforcing steel wire rope
provides bending resistance. Slabs in prestressed concrete are usually produced
in lengths of up to 200 meters.

o Polyethylene terephthalate, better known as PET felt, is a unique material.

Strong and sturdy, it is better at controlling acoustics than drop ceiling panels.
PET felt looks and feels like wool, but this innovative acoustic felt is made of
recycled water and soda bottles and can contain anywhere from 50% to 100%
post-recycled content. It’s formed into sheets that can be transformed into
panels, tiles, light fixtures and even furniture, all of which do a superior job of
absorbing sound and controlling the acoustics in a room or building.
PET acoustic felt is highly durable and is easy to clean and maintain. It doesn’t
contain organic material, so it won’t begin to degrade or crumble with time, and
you can use it in a wide variety of settings without worrying about maintenance or
care. It can be found in an incredible range of colors, as well as shapes and
designs that help it fit in well with nearly any setting.
At the end of its lifespan, it’s also fully recyclable, making it an excellent green
choice for today’s eco-conscious companies. Possible for walls ng conference
rooms, sa selected areas like seminar rooms/AVR room…. (fig. 11)

o STP - Sewage treatment plant / facility

Sewage treatment is a type of wastewater treatment which aims to remove
contaminants from sewage to produce an effluent that is suitable to discharge to
the surrounding environment or an intended reuse application, thereby
preventing water pollution from raw sewage discharges.
In general, the wastewater discharged from domestic premises like residences,
institutions, and commercial establishments is termed sewage or wastewater. It
includes waste liquid from toilets, baths, showers, kitchens, and sinks draining
into sewers. Sewage treatment refers to the process of removing contaminants,
micro-organisms and other types of pollutants from wastewater, primarily from
household sewage. Sewage treatment includes physical, chemical, and
biological methods to remove contaminants and produce environmentally safe
treated wastewater to make it usable again.
The main purpose of a sewage treatment system or sewage treatment plant is to
remove wastewater from points of origin to a treatment facility or place of
disposal.

The Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) is a fill-and- draw activated sludge system
for wastewater treatment. In this system, wastewater is added to a single “batch”
reactor, treated to remove undesirable components, and then discharged.
The main advantage of sequencing batch reactors is that they produce effluent
low in organic compounds and thus can be used to meet strict effluent standards.
The system can be effectively used as part of a larger system when the removal
of the nutrients nitrogen and phosphorus are required.
The advantages of using SBR Technology is Low Capital and Operating Cost,
Excellent potential of lesser payback period: SBR requires the low investment
and operating costs as compared to any other technology, when compared on
basis of outlet characteristics, material of construction, land required, and power
consumed; with any other type of technology.
Sequencing Batch Reactor process:
feed (raw or clarified water) and reaction (aeration/mixing in the tank);
settle (separating out the suspended solids);
decant (drawing off the treated water) and then idle (extracting excess sludge).

Following are some STP technology commonly used.

RA 9275 – The Philippine Clean Water Act

The Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 (Republic Act No. 9275) aims to protect
the country’s water bodies from pollution from land-based sources (industries
and commercial establishments, agriculture and community/household activities).
It provides for a comprehensive and integrated strategy to prevent and minimize
pollution through a multi-sectoral and participatory approach involving all the
stakeholders.

management program, this Act provides for the furtherance of proper
segregation, collection and transport, recycling, and composting of wastes in the
Philippines.

o Rainwater Harvesting Tank

In 2017, Angara said the DILG issued another memo circular which outlined the
policies and guidelines for the construction of rainwater collectors. The circular
provides that all government public infrastructures must construct rainwater
collection systems (RWCS) and use collected rainwater for non-potable uses.

An established and working rainwater harvesting system can provide

water for:
Water the plants and your garden
Start an irrigation system or lawn sprinkler system
Have a permanent source of water for hydroponics and
aeroponics Clean the garage and perimeter of the house
Wash the car
Flush and clean the toilet
Rainwater harvesting (RWH) is one of the methods employed and followed to
support water conservation. According to the Philippine Green Building Code
(PGBC), rainwater is considered one of the cleanest sources of water and can be
used for non- potable purposes. Good quality rainwater can also be used for
domestic use. Scarcity of water in some areas is of concern and RWH has been
one of the identified solutions. Aside from its significance for its usage, it can also
lessen flooding in impervious areas. (fig. 14)
