General Objectives: At the end of this lesson, students should be able to deepen their
knowledge on the different types of computer software and understand their functions.

Specific Objectives: At the end of this lesson, students should be able to;
• Define the term Computer Software with 60% accuracy after class discussion.
 Gain an understanding of the various types of computer software with 70% accuracy after
Hand-on Activity.
• Differentiate between system software and application software with 80% accuracy after
PowerPoint Presentation.
• Outline examples of common computer software within each category and its functions with
70% accuracy throughout lesson.
• Analyze the impact of software on computer functionality and user experience with 80%
accuracy after live demonstration.

Engage: (15mins)
Teacher will start with a brief discussion about the role of software in computers. Ask the
students about the software they use daily and how it enhances their computer experience. If time
spares, continue discussion with class about the role of software in non-computer related (how it
applies real-life) circumstances. Ask the students about the software they use daily and how it

Think-Pair-Share (2 minutes): Have students form groups of two and develop a definition for
Computer Software based on classroom discussions. Teacher may take notes of key terms
mentioned and clarify where necessary.
Explore: (15mins)
Students will be asked to rewrite the list of common software categories (e.g., operating systems,
multimedia software, graphics software, antivirus, etc.) presented by teacher. Students will Have
to search for examples of each category using the internet and briefly describe their functions.
Explain: (20mins)
Teacher will introduce students to a PowerPoint presentation entitled Types of Software.
PowerPoint would further allow students to explore different/various types of computer software
and understand their functions. Teacher will take students through the detailed presentation on
different types of software (application and system software). Explaining examples, functions,
and how they contribute to overall computer functionality. Teacher should encourage questions
and discussions. Teacher should use the opportunity to refer back to the student’s previous
responses and provide clarity where necessary.
Elaborate: 15 minutes
Teacher will divide the class into small groups and assign each group a specific type/category of
software. Students would collaborate and present the software's features, application, advantages,
and/or disadvantages relating to real life experience. Teacher should encourage creativity in
presentation formats.
Evaluate: (15 minutes)
Teacher would provide a simple software-related task or problem-solving activity. This could
involve using a specific type of software to accomplish a task, fostering practical application of
knowledge.
Homework:
Students should type a two-page reflection on today’s class and discuss how software impacts
their daily lives and the importance of understanding different types of software.
