Course: Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
Project work: EIA report writing
Weight: 20%
Objective: This assignment is intended to introduce students to the major steps used in EIA
reporting. Throughout the process, students will also be introduced to various impacts caused
by huge hydropower and irrigation and road projects.
Organization: students will form a group of 6 students and will prepare an EIA report on the
following titles:
1. Dangote Cement Factory
2. Kaliti Waste water treatment plant
5. Ethiopia – Djibouti rail way transport Project

Directions:
1. Each student should participate in group discussions, contribute to the final paper, and need
to understand the whole paper prepared by the group.
2. The final paper should be submitted in printed format and soft copy pdf format
3. The paper needs to be between ten to fifteen pages, without considering cover page and
table of contents. (No less, no more)
4. Cover page should contain the main topic of the paper, names of group members, and date
of submission.
5. The major steps in EIA process like project description, screening, scoping, impact
analysis, and mitigation should be included.
6. Any wording, sentence or paragraph obtained from other sources (books, journals, articles,
websites, magazines, videos etc.…) should be referenced.
7. Use times new roman style, the body of the text should have a font size of 12 and should
have a spacing of 1.5.
8. The paper should be submitted exactly 15 days after its first announcement in class.
