WEB PAGE DESIGN

This section provides students with hands-on experience in the use of web design tools to create a

simple website.

OBJV 9: PLAN A WEBSITE STRUCTURE AND ORGANIZATION OF PAGE

Reasons/purpose for the website.

 Promote a point of view e.g.political opinion


 Persuade people to do something e.g. vote
 Advertise a product or service
 Lets persons buy things
 Educational
 Social website – to share content and make friends e.g. dating websites
 Gaming website

Website content should reflect the purpose.

Website has features that reflect its purpose

e.g. website that sells products – have facilities to process payments online

The intended audience – who will look at the website

Website design and content should be suitable for the audience.

 What language will use for the site? Website read by people all over the world
 Language style suitable for audience. E.g. children simple language, older people more
formal audience
 Is audience familiar with internet? Can use more complex interactive facilities.

Number of web pages desired (no more than 3 pages).

 Website made of pages


 All pages have the same domain name
 How many pages will website have
 Homepage – first page see when connect to website
o Default page
o Has general description or introduction to site
o Has hyperlinks or link to other pages on website
 Index page or menu page
o Page of links to site content
 Menu bar
o On the left of every page
o With links to main areas of the site
 Search box
o Type in topic and search engine will link you to the right page

Objv 10. create simple web pages using a variety of design features;

(The use of HTML coding is not required.)

OBJV 11. INSERT HYPERLINKS WITHIN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS OF A TYPICAL WEB PAGE

Link to another web page.

Link to a location within the web page.

Link to an email address.

Link to user-created files.


OBJV 12. EVALUATE A WEBSITE FOR ACCURACY, USER FRIENDLINESS AND EFFECTIVE DISPLAY.

Publish a web page – uploading it to a suitable server, connecting it to internet, so anyone can
download it and look at content in web brower.

 Register a domain name


 Upload content
o Webhosting service
o Using FTP to upload files

Considerations for/before publishing a website:

Test the page

 Use a web browser


 Verify that all the hyperlinks work correctly.
o Test link by clicking on it and make sure it connects to right web page.
o Test other online functions such as emailing, video clips
 Use a test audience.
 Verify that all content is up-to-date.
