Repair Method For Green Light Failure

A1466 820-00165-A as an example

First: The green light is off and doesn't turn on
1. Check the power supply board and connection cable for water or damage

2. If it is determined that the power supply board and the flat cable are good, and the green light
is not on. it means that the motherboard is faulty. The green light circuit is mainly controlled
by the charging chip and the SMC. so the working conditions of the SMC and the charging
chip are mainly checked.
3. Measure the working conditions of SMC PP3V42_G3H. PP3V3_S5_SMC_VDDA.
PP1V2_S5_SMC_VDDC. PP3V3_S5_AVREF_SMC. SMC_EXTAL. SMC_XTAL.
SMC_RESET.L are 3.3V (When the power is connected, the SMC_EXTAL and SMC_XTAL
signals will be generated instantaneously and then turned off. The SMC clock does not work
during standby, and it will work again after it is turned on).

4.After confirming that the working conditions of the SMC are normal, then measure the
working conditions of the charging chip U7100: DCIN is the power supply input voltage.
VDD is 5.1V.
1
VDDP is 5.1V. VHST is 3.42V. SMB_RST_N is 3.3V. SCL is 3.42V . SDA is 3.42V. ACIN is
4.3V (ACIN voltage is greater than 3.2V. it is normal). ACOK is 3.42V.

5. After the working conditions of the SMC and the charging chip are normal, the green light is
off. replace the SMC.
Summary. When the charging chip U7100 receives an ACIN voltage greater than 3.2V. pin 14
will output the SMC_BC_ACOK signal.
If the measured ACIN voltage is greater than 3.2V. but the SMC_BC_ACOK signal is 0V voltage
repair method:
1. Measure the resistance to ground of SMC_BC_ACOK. the normal value is 460 ohms.
2. If the resistance to ground of SMC_BC_ACOK is abnormal, check the circuit connected to
SMC_BC_ACOK and find the damaged chip.

2
3. Check whether the pull-upresistor R5187 of the SMC_BC_ACOK signal is damaged or
disconnected, and measure the voltage of pin 2 of R5187 to be 3.42V

4. The above working conditions are all normal, but SMC_BC_ACOK still has no voltage. It may
be that the charging chip U7100 or SMC is damaged.
Second: The green light is on. but still does not start the repair method
The green light is on. indicating that the SMC's working conditions have been normal. If it is not
turned on. mainly check the standby condition of the PCH (This model of PCH Is Integrated
inside the CPU) .
According to the Timing sequence, measure the working conditions of the PCH in standby

3
1. The external name of VCCRTC Is PPVRTC_G3H. the voltage Is 3.3V. and the resistance
to ground is 427 ohms. Produced by U1900 chip.

2. The external name of “RTCRST” is “RTC_RESET_L”. and the voltage is 3.3V. The
external name of “SRTCRST” is “PCH_SRTCRST_L”. and the voltage is 3.3V. Both reset
signals are powred by “PPVRTC_G3H” through resistors.

4
3. The external name of "32.768K" is "PCH_CLK32K_RTCX1". which is sent by the
U1900 chip.Use an oscilloscope to measure the frequency as 32.768KMZ

VCCRTC. RTCRST . SRTCRST . 32.768K are all working conditions of RTC inside PCH.
4. The external name of “VCCDSW3_3” is "PP3V3_S5". the voltage is 3.3V. and the resistance
to ground is 350 ohms.

5
The PP3V3_S5 voltage Is generated by the U7501 (TPS51980) chip under normal working
conditions, controlling the MOS tube Q7560. the inductor L7560 and the capacitor.

5.The external name of the "DPWROK“ signal is “PM_DSW_PWRGD". the voltage is 3.3V. and
the resistance to ground is 720 ohms. SMC issued to PCH.

6
After the SMC receives the S5_PWRGD signal, it will then send the PM_DSW_PWRGD signal
to the PCH.

The voltage of the S5_PWRGD signal is provided by the resistor R8141. If R8141 is damaged,
the S5_PWRGD signal will have no voltage.

If ne measured voltage of the S5_PWRGD signal is 3.42V. it Is normal, but the SMC doesn't
output the PM_DSW_PWRGD signal, indicating that the SMC itself is damaged.

7
6.The external name of the SLP_SUS signal is PM_SLP_SUS_L the voltage is 3.3V. and is sent
by the PCH to the U8020 chip.

When the PCH chip receives the “DPWROK" signal, it will send out the "SLP_SUS*“ signal. If
the PCH chip receives the "DPWROK" signal but doesn't send the “SLP_SUS*“ signal, it means
that the PCH itself is damaged.
7. The external name of VCCSUS3_3 is PP3V3_SUS. the voltage is 3.3V. and the resistance to
ground is 398 ohms.

8
The PP3V3_SUS voltage is generated by the U8020 chip. When the U8020 chip receives the
PP3V3_S5 voltage and the P3V3SUS_EN enable signal, it will output the PP3V3_SUS voltage.

“P3V3SUS_EN" enable signal is renamed from PM_SLP_SUS_L signal through resistor R8190

If the "VIN“ voltage of the U8020 chip is measured as 3.3V and the "ON” enable signal voltage is
3.3V. both are normal, but the U8020 doesn't output the PP3V3_SUS voltage, which means that
the U8020 itself is damaged.

9
8. The external name of "RSMRST*" is "PM_RSMRST_L". the voltage is 3.3V. and the
resistance to ground Is 586 ohms. Generated by the chip U8130 and sent to the PCH.

After pin 2 of the U8130 chip is powered by VDD. it will detect the input voltage through pin 2
SENSE. When the detected input voltage is greater than 3.07V. pin 6 will output the
PM_RSMRST_L signal. The signal voltage of PM_RSMRST_L is supplied by PP3V3_SUS
through the resistor R8133.
The normal voltage of the PM_RSMRST_L signal is 3.3V.

If the voltage of pin 1 of U8130 is measured to be 3.3V. the voltage of pin 2 is 3,3V. but pin 6
doesn't output PM_RSMRST_L signal. Is U8130 damaged or R8133 damaged.
9. The PM_RSMRST_L signal is the last signal generated during standby. If it is measured that
the voltage of the PM_RSMRST_L signal Is 3.3V. it is normal, but it doesn't turn on. the SMC or
PCH may be damaged.

Repair Method Without Backlight

A1466 820-00165-A as an example

First:The screen must be connected when repaying the backlight circuit and only after the
screen is connected, the backlight power supply will be generated.
Second: Troubleshoot problems such as damage to the screen, the screen cable and the
screen cable connector on the motherboard
Third: Measure the power supply of the backlight boost inductor L7701. Before the backlight
power is boosted, the voltage of L7701 is equal to PPBUS_G3H. If the L7701 is measured to
have a voltage of 8.6V. It indicates that there is a problem with the backlight boost circuit

11
Fourth: The maintenance method when the voltage of the inductor L7701 is measured to be 0V:

1. Measure whether the fuse F7700 is damaged, and measure the resistance to ground or me
F7700. The normal value is 126 ohms.
2. Measure the voltage of the EDP_BKLT_EN signal, which is normally 3.3V. If there is no
voltage, the CPU is damaged.
3. Measure the voltage of the BKLT_PLT_RST_L signal, which is normally 3.3V, if there is no
voltage, the resistance R2088 is damaged or R2088 to Q7707 is disconnected.

12
4. If measuring EDP_BKLT_EN. BKLT_PLT_RST_L. PPVIN_SOSW_LCDBKLTFET voltage are
normal, but L7701 still has no voltage. It is possible that one of Q7707. R7788. R7789. Q7706 is
damaged or disconnected.

Fifth: The voltage of L7701 measured inductance is only 8.6V. repair method without backlight
boost.
1. Measure the working conditions of the backlight chip U7701: VIN and VLDO voltage is
5V. VDDIO voltage is 3.3V. EN voltage is 2.86V. PWM voltage is 3.3V.

13
2. Measure the resistance value of U7701 FB pin to ground, the normal value is 563
ohms. Water ingress can easily cause the XW7720 to disconnect, causing U7701 to
D7701 to disconnect. Therefore, for machines without backlight caused by water, first
check whether the XW7720 connection points are corroded.

3.Measure the resistance to ground of pin 1 of R7717. R7718. R7719. R7720. R7721.
R7722. the normal resistance to ground is 615 ohms.

14
4. Measure the sleep signal SMC_LID. the normal voltage is 3.3V. If there is no voltage
or voltage is unstable, there will be no backlight .

5. If the above working conditions are normal and there is still no backlight replace the
backlight chip U7701.
