Sleeping Baby Dragon Pattern

"A dragon without its rider is a tragedy.

A rider without their dragon is dead."
-Rebecca Yarros

I was so excited to create this pattern after I finished reading Fourth Wing! I
knew that I had to create a baby dragon of my own!
What's awesome about using the chenille yarn for this pattern is that if your
tension is consistent, it looks like scales when it starts to build up!
please feel free to add or subtract any details as far as finishing touches go to
make your dragon feel unique!
I hope you enjoy this pattern and what you create with it as much as I did!
Don't forget to take pictures and tag me (@redmills_crochet) so I can see
your beautiful creations!
Happy hooking <3 -Millie
Supplies
for this you'll need:
a 5.0mm, 5.5mm, or 6mm hook (your preference)
chenille or chunky yarn in 2 different colors, I used gold
and cream so those are the colors I`ll use in the pattern.
Fiber Fill Stuffing
black yarn (for embroidery)
optional fur yarn
a yarn needle
scissors

YOU WILL NEED ALOT OF YARN FOR THIS PROJECT!!!!!

If you don’t want to be playing yarn chicken, I suggest at
least 2 skeins of Chenille home slim which are about 218
yards each, I didn’t use the full second skein of mine but
it’s better to be safe than not have enough yarn

I personally used Loops & Thread chenille home slim in gold.

Other yarns such as Chenille home, Premier chunky Parfait or XL
parfait, and sweet snuggles lite would all be decent yarns to use for this
project if you're able to find the color you want to use :)
Just expect your dragon to turn out bigger if you're using a thicker yarn.
Also feel free to use whatever yarn you prefer to work with! :)
Also, I used fur the love from hobby lobby for some optional feathery
details at the end.

slip stitch over the top of the wing back to the starting point, fasten

take gold yarn and slip stitch from starting point to the tip of the
wing and then TW and repeat slip stitches all the way back to start
point
Assembly

Sew the head to the body, make sure it's stuffed firmly in the neck
before completely closing it off
The body should still be able to "lay flat" as stated above in the pattern
once the head is sewn on

**body
should still
lat flat after
sewing arms
and legs
on**

** Stuff the
thighs as you
sew them
on**
Sew the front arms on Sew the thighs on approx.
approx. between the rounds between rounds 33 and 23, make
of 37-43 of the body about 8- sure the decrease section is
9 stitches looking from the facing the top, about 11 stitches
bottom of row 43 apart looking from the bottom
sew the legs/feet on to the thighs, placement is
preference. I sewed mine on under the thigh but facing
out slightly and so that they lay flat on the surface below.

Sew the ears on, I had mine angled so they kind of face down, approx
from rounds 14-20 about 12-13 stitches apart from the front corner,
make sure to fold them in a little as you sew them

Stuff and sew the horns on just above and slightly behind the ears,
placement is your preferences but I had mine placed around rounds
15-18 about 5 stitches apart
sew on the spikes in this orders:
Small, Small, Big , Small, Small.
I`m not the best at making things ins a
straight line (clearly) but just do your
best to line them up, mine are all 2-3
rounds apart. Stuffing is optional, I
did not stuff mine.

sew on the wings, placement is

preference but I attached mine from
approx rounds 40-35 just about a
stitch away from the back horns,
again, just do your best to make them
even :)
Finishing Touches
Sew in the eyes, I`ll link a video below that helped me figure out
the shape I liked, the creator is Tranglupattern and I added on
little eyelashes to my eye slits afterwards. This might take a few
trial and errors moments for you, don't get frustrated, you're
literally almost done :) she starts the eyes at about the 2 minute
mark, mine are placed at about rounds 9 to 13 approx. 12 stiches
apart with a slight slant upwards and the eyelashes are each
about 2 stitches long.

eye embroidery tutorial

**Optional** Sew on the nose slits, placement is preference but, I

have mine placed from about round 1 to round 2, approx. 2-3
stitches apart and they are slanted upwards

**Optional** Sew on a little blush for your baby dragon,

placement is preference, I have mine from rounds 12-15, just
below the eyes/eyelashes
**Optional** add a little
fluffy yarn around the
horns for a feathery look,
use any fur yarn you
prefer, this one is "fur the
love" from hobby lobby.

**Optional** create a "feather tail

slst into 2nd to last stitch on tail,

down to tail, chain6, slst5 back
down to tail, chain 4, slst3 back
down to tail, 1slst into 2nd to last
stich on the other side. I then
sewed a little bit of the yarn tails
up the sides before fastening
them off.
