6.
Budget DogFood Corporation has hired you to help formulate a new recipe for its
ActivePuppy brand. There are three ingredients available; these are known to you only
as mystery meats A, B and C. The nutritional content and costs per gram of these meats
are given in the table below. An ActivePuppy 1kg dogroll must contain a minimum of
200gms fat, a minimum of 350gms protein, and a maximum of 300gms of gristle.

Mystery Meat Cost per kg % Fat % Protein % Gristle

A $10 50 20 30
B $20 10 50 40
C $15 40 40 20

(a) Formulate the above as a linear program that will minimise Budget DogFood’s costs.

[7 marks]

(b) Use the Excel sensitivity report on the following page to answer the questions

i. What is the optimal ingredient mix?

[1 marks]

ii. How much will it cost per dogroll?

[2 marks]

iii. None of mystery meat B is being used at present, how much would the cost of
the meat have to change before it entered the solution?
[2 marks]

iv. Which constraints are binding?

[2 marks]

v. How much could the price of meat A change before the optimal solution
changed?
[2 marks]

vi. If the minimum requirement for protein increases how will this affect the total
cost? How much could it increase before the optimal solution changes?
