PRESENTATION
• It is a formal dialogue or one-to-group
encounter as in lectures, seminars, talks and
report presentations
• Factors to consider for oral presentation:
o Planning the oral presentation
o Knowing the content
o Analysing the audience
o Knowing the venue and time of presentation
o Writing the outline of presentation
o Practicing the delivery of presentation
PLANNING

• Analyse the purpose and audience


• Gather relevant information by reviewing the
written report
• Select appropriate and important materials
to be presented during the presentation
KNOWING

• Information selected must be adapted to suit


the objectives of the presentation (i.e
background info, problem statement,
objectives of study, method, findings,
conclusions, recommendations)
• Prepare appropriate visual aids based on
materials selected
ANALYSING

• Know your audience’s interests, expectations


and size (small or large groups of people)
• Know who they are (professional or technical
people) and how much they know about the
topic
• Consider what aspects of the topic that
interest your audience the most
• This enables you to communicate effectively
and lessen the risk of irritating and
frustrating your audience
ADJUSTING

• Find out these elements:


ü The size of the room
ü The sitting arrangement
ü The facilities provided (LCD, computer,
microphone, rostrum, OHP, boards, flip
chart stand, papers)
ü Time allotted for presentation (i.e 30
minutes)
• Identify main ideas or key points of the
presentation and write the outline/notes
o The outline lays out ideas clearly and
helps to present ideas so that audience
can follow it without getting lost
