1 Safety 0011358041
All work relating to a Vestas wind turbine, including work methods and practices, employee
training and protective measures, and use of tools and equipment, shall be in accordance with
the requirements of the applicable governmental and private occupational safety and health
codes and standards. Employers engaged in such work are also required to be familiar with and
comply with the wind turbine-specific ‘Safety regulations for operators and technicians’ manual
for the relevant wind turbine type. Vestas shall not be responsible for any liabilities arising from
failure to comply with such requirements. Vestas reserves the right to inspect such work to
ascertain such compliance.
The service technician must read and understand the PPE sheets for each of the chemicals used
or work done in this instruction. The PPE sheets describe the correct personal protective
equipment to wear for the specific work. If in doubt about the PPE requirements for the work,
contact the site responsible or the line manager and confirm the correct procedure before starting
the work.
Read the full document before you start to do work.
At least 2 of the service technicians who do work in a wind turbine must be able to prove that they
have a valid GWO basic safety training certificate.
At least 1 service technician must hold the wind turbine-specific training course certificate for the
wind turbine in question.
Some tasks require one or more advanced training modules or job-specific training, as described
in the Vestas ‘Technical training programme’. The person who plans a specific task must make
sure that the service technicians involved have the proper know-how for the completion of that
task.

• Do not work on live circuits.
• Obey the applicable LOTO procedures.
• Only qualified personnel are allowed to do the work.
• Make sure that the switchgear circuit breakers are open, earthed, and secured
against closing.
• Use an HV/LV voltage detector to measure zero voltage before you start to do the
work.
• Use certified and correct equipment.
• Use the necessary PPE that is given in PPE sheets 5 and 6.
1 Isolate the power supply to the working and emergency lights and the outlet sockets in the
tower and the nacelle.
2 Secure both the light and outlet socket cable to the cable tray with cable ties.
12.2 To connect the cables between the middle tower section and the
nacelle 0011392813
Connection between the nacelle and tower sections is done in the bottom of the top
tower section at the loop.
The connection for lights and outlet sockets between the middle tower sections will be
similar to connections between the top tower section and the middle tower section.

2 Secure both the light and outlet socket cable to the cable tray with cable ties.
12.3 To connect the tower cables to the light system control cabinet 0011646555
1 Connect the cables in the tower to the light system control cabinet. See the relevant
electrical diagram in section 4.2 Reference documents, page 6.
a For the light system control cabinet, item number 29057023, connect the light cables
to ++51-635-01-02-X2 and connect the outlet cables to ++51-640-01-02-X1.
b For the light system control cabinet, item number 29084412 and 29084411, connect
the light cables to ++51 -635-02-05-X2 and connect the outlet cables to ++51 -640-02-
03-X1.
12.4.1 To connect the control cabinet of the light system to the external
power source 0011392704
The temporary power supply must be connected to the control cabinet of the light
system to give sufficient light during the wind turbine installation.
1 Keep the control cabinet of the light system closed when the temporary power supply is
connected to the control cabinet of the light system.

a Mk 10D and 11: Connect the cables -635-03-02-W2 and -635-03-02-W1 from the light
box cabinet to the optional battery cabinet.
12.4.2 To disconnect the control cabinet of the light system from the
external power source 0011392831
1 Disconnect the 230 V external power supply from the cable -630-16-W6/-635-02-03-W20.
3 Connect the cable -630-16-W6/-635-02-03-W20 to the tower control cabinet. See the
relevant ‘Electrical diagram’.
The 230 V tower is a standard delivery from Vestas. For different countries, different
portable step-down transformers are used.
All towers are installed with 230 V CEE plugs.
1 Connect the 230 V CEE input plug from the portable transformer (29025497/VT20000585)
to the 230 V supply at the towers sections.
a The output from the portable transformer will be 110 V (55-0-55) 50 Hz for the CEE
socket.

In some situations, the service technician must carry the portable transformer to the
site because the step-down transformer must be installed in the tower platforms with
brackets and magnets in some towers.
See 29025410 ‘Twr serv trafo assy 2x55v 50Hz’ (2 x 55 V, 50 Hz assembly) and

instructions.
For the V112/V117/V126-3.3 MW, V105/V112/V117/V126/V136-3.45 MW, and V117/
V136/V150-4.0/4.2 MW platform, when you install the transformer (item no.
29025497) (2 x 55 V, 50 Hz), the connection to MCB -640-02-03-F2 (C10) must be
moved to -640-02-03-F4 (D16) inner tower cabinet.
