Challenges Tourvashu Faced While Traveling to

China

Preparation Visa and Other Documents

Obtain a visa prior to arrival in the People's Republic of China (PRC) and have a passport
with at least six months' validity remaining. The lack of either will result in a fine and
immediate deportation upon arrival. China is also known for its strict visa policies, while visa
approval prices are not that high. As frustrating as it is, the consular officers seem indifferent
and may not be willing to give a reason for the visa refusal. Tourvashu waited 4 Months and it
was his dream to travel to China.
Languages
Knowing the local language helps you to get around more easily. Knowing the language of
the place you are visiting will make it easier to get around. This will make your travel more
enjoyable. Whether you want to read signs or ask for directions, knowing the local language
makes it a lot easier for you. Your personal need to learn the language depends entirely on
your purpose, goals, and desires. However, as mentioned previously, it's possible to live in
China comfortably without speaking any Mandarin Chinese. Chinese is one of the most spoken
languages globally, with more than 1 billion speakers. It will be much easier to travel to China or
even other parts of Asia if you know Chinese. You'll also have more job opportunities and can
potentially earn a higher salary. In Episode 1 Tourvashu did not know Chinese when he reached
China. He needed some help through some local citizens in the Airport to Identify where he
needed to go.

2
Converting Currency
Foreign exchange is the trading of different national currencies or units of account. It is
important because the exchange rate, the price of one currency in terms of another, helps
to determine a nation's economic health and hence the well-being of all the people residing
in it. The Chinese economy relies on its own two currency system to regulate the exchange
rate of its money and maintain control over foreign investments. The Chinese Renminbi is
used for domestic transactions within Mainland China, Whereas the Chinese Yuan is used
for international transactions outside the mainland. Tourvashu forgot to convert his
currency when he reached China so he went to the nearest ATM and he tried his Pin Code
several Times and the Numbers were in Chinese and since he did not know the language
after several attempts his Bank Account got Locked.

3
Local Sim Card Arrangement

Buy a Local SIM Card at Your Destination. A local SIM will not only give you the best rates,
but also access to local discounts. This is undeniably the best option if you don't want to
consign yourself to enduring expensive phone calls, scavenging free wifi, or returning home
to an exorbitant bill. SIM is critical for smartphone use. Without a SIM card, your phone simply
cannot connect to your wireless carrier's cellular network. And if you have a phone that supports
multiple SIM cards, you can connect to multiple networks or have multiple lines on one device.
Tourvashu did not arrange a Sim Card from China and he had problems with connecting to
VPN and even after buying an Sim Card he was not able to find and Signal/Network on His
Phone

4
Application Blockages

After Tourvashu reached his Hotel He had just got to know that Applications like Whatsapp,
Gpay, Facebook, are Banned so he had to connect to a VPN to use the Applications. In the
last few years, the government had ordered to ban many 250 Chinese apps citing them to be
“prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of the state and
public order" Apps including TikTok, Whatsapp, Facebook, Gmail, Instagram, Twitter, and
Snapchat.

5
Knowing Where you want to go

When Tourvashu took the metro train and exited the Airport he didn’t know where his
booked hotel was so he had to ask a Stranger for help and even after the Stranger where to
go he was still confused about the directions after walking some Miles. Surprisingly the
Stranger met Tourvashu again and found him lost so the Stranger decided to guide him to
his location as he was already going near his hotel. After they reached the Hotel the Kind
Stranger left as he had some work. After reaching China you should know where you need
to go for that you will need to communicate with Strangers to know your destination.
Beijing, the capital of China, is the most popular tourist destination in China every year. You
could get the maximum experience of Chinese culture and history from one destination.
There you could learn some stories about Chinese emperors by walking in the Forbidden
City, which was once their home.

6
Communication with People

Tourvashu was not familiar with the Chinese language so he had many difficulties
communicating with people regarding questions and directions. After he had settled in his
Hotel he decided to take a walk near his hotel room at night and as he was showing some
shops. In Episode 2 he was exploring Hutong’s Traditional Place where he met a lady called
‘Chu Han’ and she showed the village to Tourvashu and she understood that he was a
vlogger and Tourvashu also got to try out new dishes in Beijing City (Heizhima Hutong).

7
The Great Wall of China
In Episode 3 Tourvashu had planned to go to the Great Wall of China which is 21,000 KM longer
and After he got out of the metro train and went to the bus stop he was shocked to see too many
people in line waiting to travel through the bus as it was getting crowded but he got his ticket
and reached the destination. After reaching there he found out that in China whenever you're
going for tourism you should carry your passport with you because they will check your passport
and then let you enter. After he got his passport and Tickets checked he got to know that it will
take 2 hours to walk back and forth and since it was the weekend it was very crowded and he
couldn’t speak because of the crowd. After he had Visited the Great Wall he went to Tiananmen
Square which is in beijing and he wasn’t allowed to visit it the day before because he didn’t have
an appointment and he also tells us that if you want to see this place you should have an
appointment the day before you want to book it and it can only be booked in the specific booking
time slots.

8
Shopper’s Paradise in Beijing, China

When Tourvashu explored the mall he thought that it was strange to only have Apple Products
and he also found out that all services from google have been banned in China including
Android Services and Apple Services are open in China and this is the reason for the growth of
Apple in China because Android Services are banned. After exploring the Apple Store he tried
communicating with a receptionist inquiring about the MI Xiaomi Store but he couldn’t
understand what she was trying to say so Eventually she had to use her hands to communicate
and tell him the floor number. After visiting the MI Store he directly went to the DJI Flagship
Store which is known for Joint Drone and Camera and after some queries with the Worker he
decided to buy DJI Mini 3 Drone 249g which was (3,000) Yuan and (35,000) INR. While
Purchasing it he needed his passport to get checked and he was told that he can’t purchase the
Drone using a Visa card and that he needed a Chinese Card so he had to pay in cash so he had
to go to the nearby ATM and tried Withdrawing some cash but it didn’t work in 4-5 ATMS and
when he withdrew 2,000 Yuan in the 5th ATM it worked because you can only withdraw
Maximum 2,000 Yuan at a Time. Because of this issue he reached the Showroom when there
was 10 Mins left to close the store and in China they don’t Charge you for Withdrawing money.
After his purchase was complete it was 10:45PM and the Mall were closed by that time as he
went to the mall exit it was closed and after finding 2-3 mall exits closed he had to take the

9
Emergency Exit and it was too late that Metro Train services were almost closing but he
reached home using one last Metro Train.
