Committee: International Criminal Court (ICC)

Delegation: Czech Republic

Topic: The ICC’s outlook on Gaza and a new resolution to solve the
issue

The Czech Republic, nestled in the heart of Europe, emerges as a beacon of resilience and
commitment to global peace and stability. With a history marked by perseverance, our nation
upholds the pillars of international law and advocates for justice on the global stage. The Israeli-
Palestinian conflict presents a challenge rooted in complex historical grievances, requiring a
concerted effort to address.

As Albert Einstein mentioned, Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by
understanding. Czech Republic wants to clarify that it maintains a strong bond based on shared
values and strategic cooperation with Israel that dates back to early 19 th century.i Our
commitment to Israel's security and sovereignty is unwavering, as evidenced by our historical
ties and diplomatic endeavors. The statements made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and
Minister Yisrael Katz underscore our solidarity with Israel and our determination to defend its
right to self-defense.ii

The Czech Republic views the situation in Gaza with profound concern, recognizing the
suffering endured by both Israeli and Palestinian civilians amidst ongoing hostilities and political
tensions. We unequivocally condemn all acts of violence and terrorism perpetrated by extremist
groups such as Hamas, which perpetuate a cycle of conflict and hinder prospects for peace and
stability in the region.iii

In addressing the situation in Gaza within the ICC, the Czech Republic advocates for the
following key objectives:

1. Ceasefire and Humanitarian Assistance: We call for an immediate ceasefire to halt

hostilities and ensure the safety of civilians. Additionally, we urge the international
community to provide humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of those affected
by the conflict.
2. Accountability and Justice: The Czech Republic supports the ICC's mandate to
investigate and prosecute individuals responsible for serious crimes committed in Gaza,
including acts of terrorism and violations of international humanitarian law.
Accountability is paramount for achieving justice and preventing impunity.
3. Dialogue and Negotiation: We emphasize the importance of resuming meaningful
negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive peace agreement based on relevant
United Nations resolutions, including Resolutions 242 and 338. A negotiated solution,
facilitated through dialogue and diplomacy, is essential for lasting peace and security for
Israelis and Palestinians alike.
4. Support for Two-State Solution: The Czech Republic reaffirms its support for a two-
state solution, where Israel and Palestine coexist peacefully within internationally
recognized borders. We call upon all parties to demonstrate commitment to this vision
and refrain from actions undermining peace prospects.
