In 1962, Sam Walton established the first Walmart in Rogers, Arkansas, with the
straightforward idea of providing high-quality products at affordable costs. His foresight and
tenacity made Walmart the biggest retailer in the world, providing millions of consumers
with value every day by enabling them to live better and save money.
Walmart Canada opened its doors in 1994 with 122 locations. We now have more than 400
stores and employ more than 100,000 people in Canada, twenty-eight years after we first
opened. In 2020 response to COVID-19, Walmart and Sam's Club have converted parking
lots into testing facilities and have sourced PPE supplies for front-line healthcare personnel.

Walmart+ membership program. Tens of millions of COVID-19 vaccines are distributed by
Walmart and Sam's Club, with 80% of those doses going to areas with poor access to
healthcare. Asda, a major grocery business in the United Kingdom, has been sold to Walmart.
Walmart makes investments in driverless vehicles, fintech, and drone deliveries. Walmart
introduces its last-mile delivery service, Walmart GoLocal. Walmart has announced
intentions to use Live Better U to pay for all of the associates' education expenses, including
books. Walmart has announced its $2 billion green bond issuance. Walmart Data Ventures is
launched. In 2022 Walmart expands InHome Delivery to 30 million homes in the United
States. Florida will now have Walmart Health. Project GigatonTM at Walmart has completed

Walmart, the largest retailer in the world with 20,000 locations across 28 countries, created
and built one of the largest private clouds in the world, processing more than 2.5 petabytes of
data per hour.
Since it serves a large number of clients globally and has created its own cloud to aid in the
analysis of customer, competitor, and market data, it also protects the protection of this data.
Walmart has complete control over its infrastructure, thus they are free to decide when and
how to take the necessary security precautions. According to estimates, the transactional
database at Walmart had around 2.5 petabytes of consumer information in 2012.

How Did Walmart Achieve Operational Excellence Through Information Systems-

District/Regional manager who is in charge of overseeing the stores located in that region.

They have adopted a "hub-and-spoke" arrangement, where commodities are centralized in
its warehouse, to the advantage of this supply chain (also known as distribution centre or

Mart can directly distribute 85% of its products from its warehouse, as opposed to only
60% for its rivals. They were able to be price competitive because to their hub-and-spoke

in purchasing expenses (because the costs of intermediate stages were eliminated).
Wal-Mart has been looking for a quick way to get products to its consumers in terms of
inventory management. In order to improve the control of fast-moving consumer
products, they devised a system known as the point of sales (POS) system. The POS can
also facilitate better business decision-making by enabling inventory tracking. This is
feasible because data has been logged at the retail stores using the POS (i.e information
about every transaction has been kept). It contributes by gathering important information
about client purchasing patterns and behavioral data. As a result, the POS terminal can
monitor the store's inventory levels (ibid).
