Status Description

SCHEDULED The message has been accepted by the platform and is scheduled for delivery to the relevant
mobile network at the time you have specified. It has not yet been sent by us.

SENT The message has been validated and sent to the mobile network for delivery. This does not
mean it has been delivered, as we are yet to receive any delivery status notification. This is the
default status that we set, once messages leave our platform, but does not indicate or imply
that the message has been delivered. Messages will remain in a SENT state until we get a
further update from the network. You don’t need to take any more action at this time.

DELIVERED The message has been delivered successfully. All is well with this one.

UNDELIVERABL The message was accepted by the mobile network but cannot be delivered. The network has
E discarded this message and will not attempt to redeliver it. There are a variety of reasons why
SMS messages may not be delivered. We provide a simplified set of error codes and categories
that help you to understand why a particular message is undeliverable and decide on next
steps.

EXPIRED By default, we ask the mobile networks to continue to retry delivery of messages over a 48
hour period. If this expiry time is reached without either the message being delivered or a
permanent error returned (when the message will be marked as UNDELIVERABLE) you’ll
receive a delivery report with an EXPIRED status. You can reduce the expiry time by using the
‘validity’ parameter in our SMS API to set the number of minutes before an EXPIRED status is
returned.

REJECTED If the mobile network does not accept the message you’ll receive a delivery report with a
status of REJECTED. There can be several reasons for messages being rejected, such as the
number in question no longer being assigned to a handset

The ‘rejected by the operator’ delivery report means that the network has
immediately rejected the message and will not attempt to deliver the message to the
number provided.

This is a permanent error, there will be no further delivery attempt.

This could be for a number of reasons,

1. The number is not recognised as active on the mobile network.

2. The number no longer exists or has been disconnected.

3. The mobile phone is rejecting the SMS. The user may have a ‘do not
disturb’ (DND) setting enabled.

4. The subscriber’s mobile service has been suspended by the mobile

network operator. This could be for non-payment of the mobile bill or a
breach of its terms and conditions.

5. The user has changed their contract type and the phone number is
temporarily out of service.

Every DLR includes one of the following four flags that relate to the
message status:

1. Delivered: The message was successfully delivered to the recipient’s

device (although not necessarily seen).
2. Scheduled: The message is scheduled for delivery but has not yet
been delivered.
3. Pending: The delivery process is in progress with the mobile
operator, or may have stalled for some reason, which could include
the recipient not having a phone signal, network issues, an issue with
their subscription, or their phone is simply switched off.
4. Undeliverable: While pending messages may well get delivered
sooner or later, messages that are undeliverable will not. The
message could have been blocked by the operator’s spam filters, the
number may not exist, or the recipient’s subscription may have been
suspended for some reason.
5.  Delivered – your text has been successfully delivered to the
recipient's handset.
6.  Undelivered – your message couldn't be delivered to the handset
usually because the phone number is invalid or the SMS content is
unsuitable.
7.  Failed – the service provider hasn't accepted the message from
the carrier, so delivery isn't possible.
8.  Rejected – the mobile operator rejected your message.
9.  Expired – the message expired after a certain amount of time
going undelivered.
