5. CARPET
Composition: 80% wool, 20% polyamide. Back on jute and knitted cotton finished w/ resin. Layer over leveled flat
concrete floor.

 Acoustic performance
NRC ≥ 0.35
Thickness – 10mm or higher

 Location
It is used in meeting room, conference room, multipurpose hall and indoor games room.

6. ACOUSTIC INSULATION
Mineral wool is used as a filling between partition wall and behind perforated MDF, gypsum board or fabric panel
for acoustic absorption. A minimum of 48kg/m3 density mineral wool should be used for optimum performance.

 Acoustic performance
Absorption - NRC = 0.8-0.9 (50mm thick)

 Isolation
o STC = 10dB and higher (50MM thick, 48kg/m3)
o STC = 15dB and higher (50MM thick, 80kg/m3)
o STC = 17dB and higher (50MM thick, 100kg/m3)

 Location
For all partition wall system and behind fabric, grooved MDF board and perforated gypsum board ceiling
panels.

7. GYPSUM BOARD
Laminated gypsum board of thickness 12.5mm with a material density of 640 kg/m3 or higher should be used for
used for internal partition wall for all the rooms.

 Acoustic performance
Isolation: STC = 26dB and higher
Size = (1.2x2.4 sq m) based on vendor availability

 Location
For all partition wall system and false ceilings.

8. UNDERLAYMENT FLOOR MAT (IMPACT ISOLATION)

Flat, resilient, layer of 6mm underlayment mat placed under screed of concrete floor to provide impact isolation.
Generally made of recycled rubber material with an average dynamic stiffness of 100MN/m3 or lesser

 Acoustic performance
Impact Isolation: IIC = 50 with 150mm thick concrete slab of 2100kg/m3 density.

 Location
To be installed in multipurpose halls, indoor games room and gym.

9. HVAC DUCT LINER

Rigid fiberglass board that is specifically designed for lining HVAC plenums and air distribution ductwork, which
provides sound isolation. To optimize performance, the thickness should be 25mm thicknesses.

 Acoustic performance
Absorption NRC: 0.7-0.9 for 25mm thick

 Location
All HVAC ducting basis insertion loss required.

10. SOLID BLOCK PARTITION WALL (AHU)

AHU room have higher noise levels and require higher sound isolation partition wall, the concrete block wall
should be 230mm thick with density of 2100 kg/m3 to achieve desired sound transmission class value.

 Acoustic performance
Sound Isolation: STC 63 with overall thickness of 350 mm and double layer of gypsum board with an
airgap of 100 mm between concrete block and gypsum board.

 Location
AHU / Mechanical / Electrical equipment rooms

11. ACOUSTIC DOOR

Sound transmission needs to be isolated through doors to achieve desired interior room noise level criteria.

 Acoustic performance
o Sound Isolation: STC = 50 dB with overall minimum thickness of 90mm filled with mineral wool of
100kg/m3 or higher density / Metal finish door
o Sound Isolation: STC = 45 dB with overall minimum thickness of 75mm filled with mineral wool of
80kg/m3 or higher density / Metal or Timber finish door

13. CONCRETE WEIGHT PER UNIT AREA BELOW MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT

The physical weight per unit area below various types of mechanical equipment must be of a minimum value so
as to limit the transmission of sound and vibration throughout the building. The weight is expressed below in
terms of kPa. In addition, a housekeeping pad is required for each separate piece of equipment.

Weight of slab below the

Equipment Housekeeping pad
equipment
4.8 kPa+0.6 m high concrete
Cooling Tower N/A
piers
Chillers 6 kPa 100 mm
Pumps 6 kPa 100 mm
DG Fans > 50 hp 6 kPa 100mm
Inlet Fans < 50 hp 6 kPa 100mm
Diesel Generators 6 kPa 100mm

14. FUME HOOD NOISE EMISSIONS

To limit distracting noise from fume hoods, units should be procured that are 42 dBA or less in terms of the A-
weighted sound pressure level at a 1 m distance.
