Year 6 Block 1 Curriculum Overview

Reminders:
Daily reading for at least 20 minutes.

Maths: In this Block, Year 6 students will investigate place value and number properties, as well as read, write, order,
and compare numbers, as well as determine digit values. Additionally, children will investigate negative numbers,
count forwards and backwards with positive and negative whole numbers through zero, and round any number up
to 1,000,000 to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, 100,000, 1,000,000, and 10,000,000. Children will develop mental
and written strategies for adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing large numbers.

Science: In the first block Year 6 will be learning about Living Things and their Habitats. Children will recognise that
living things can be grouped in a variety of ways; living things are classified into broad groups according to common
observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including micro-organisms, plants and animals.

Physical Education: Pupils will demonstrate and consolidate the basic actions of travelling, jumping and landing,
transferring of weight, balancing, rolling and turning on the floor. Students will evaluate and assess movements to
improve sequences.

Languages:
French: In block 1, students will be taught vocabularies related to greetings ( formal and informal way) , Classroom
objects , Seasons and Weather.

Sinhala Basic: In block 1, students will be taught vocabulary related to places in town, directions, positional words
