ART
Public speaking is an art, but it
does not require a highly
artistic talent.

An effective public speaker


giver beauty to his speech, and
the listener finds pleasure in
the speech delievered.
ORAL
Public speaking is spoken. The
spoken communication to be
effective must be clear and
accurate.

The public speaker must strive


to learn voice projection, and
proper breathing.
COMMUNICATION

Communication must have a


source (speaker), a receiver
(listener), and a message which
is transmitted through a
channel.
SPECIFIC PURPOSES

A speech has specific purposes


that must be acheived as the
speaker finishes his speech.

TO ENTERTAIN

The speaker's task is to amuse


and give his listeners pleasure.
The speech, however, does
not necessarily have to be
hilarious or comical.
TO INFORM

The purpose is a product of


research. It supplies the
audience with a body of
knowledge, concepts and
precepts.
TO PERSUADE

To persuade is to appeal to
the feelings and emotions of
the audience without the use
of reasoning and logic.

The speaker employs


incidents and situations that
may arouse the feelings of te
listener.
TO CONVINCE

To convince is to win the


audience by force of logic,
reason and arguement.

To convince the audience, the


speaker uses facts, statistics,
and other data.
TO ACTUATE

To actuate is to move the


audience to action.

If the speaker has succeeded


in entertaining, informing,
persuading, and convincing
the audience, he will certainly
succeed in actuating them.
