1.0 GENERAL

1.1 Purpose

The purpose of this calculation is to determine the number of indoor and outdoor lighting
fixtures necessary to meet required illumination levels for all designated areas.

1.2 Objective

The objective is to use Chalmlite version 4.0 lighting software to determine the number of
fixtures required for all areas. The Chalmlite printouts for representative areas are shown in
Attachment. 1

1.3 Functional Requirements

The lighting system shall provide adequate illumination to all necessary areas of the site.

The following illumination levels shall be provided:

• Outdoor Areas Roads (General Process Areas and Roads): 10 lux

• Outdoor Operational Areas/ Platforms / Walkways / Staircases: 50 lux
• Laboratory: 300 lux
• Shelter/shed: 150 lux
• LV switchgear / MCC Room: 200 lux
• Control Room: 300 lux
• Equipment Room: 200 lux
• UPS Room: 200 lux
• Battery Room: 150 lux
• Office: 200 lux
• Meeting Room: 200 lux

Outdoor process lighting fixtures are EEx-“e”, IIA/IIB, T3, IP55 min, 1x400W flood lighting,
HPSV type mounted on 10m height poles.

Shelters, platforms and tank ladders lighting fixtures are EEx- “e”, IIA/IIB, T3 IP55 min, 2
x36W fluorescent type, bracket or 3m above platform pole mounting height.

Emergency generator shelter and fire water pump station request 30 min. battery backup
2x36W fluorescent lighting fixtures.

Associated gas compressors shelter lighting fixtures are EEx-“e”, IIA/IIB, T3, IP55 min
1x150W HPSV pendant mounted type.

Indoor lighting fixtures are 2x36W fluorescent recessed mounted.

Indoor lighting fixtures for maintenance shop are 1x250W HPMV pendant mounted type.

The calculated values for representative areas are shown in Attachment 2

4.0 ASSUMPTIONS AND DATA

The illumination level is considered as average illumination level on a working plane as

follows:
• 1.0m above the floor level for indoor and shelters
• Ground level for general outdoor

Maintenance factor used in calculation is 0.8.

The rooms surface reflectances for floors, walls and ceilings are as follows:
• Floor: 20%
• Walls: 50%
• Ceiling: 70% for general indoor rooms
50% for shelters

5.0 CALCULATIONS

For lighting calculations see Attachment 1 – Chalmlite printouts containing:

• Horizontal grid lux values
• Horizontal contours
• Plan view
• Report

For indoor lighting calculation the Lumen (or Zone Cavity) method is used software to
estimate the number of lamps which give the illumination level requested.

Room index (K) must be calculated

L •W
K=
( L + W ) • Hm
Where:
L = length of room
W = width of room
Hm = height of luminaire above working plane
12200 • 5480
For control room: K = = 1.99
(12200 + 5480) • 1900
The result is used in conjunction with room reflectance values to obtain a specific utilization
factor UF for the surface illuminated from the tables. For specified reflectance values and
room index result UF = 0.69

Number of luminaires:
E•A
N=
F • MF • UF
Where:
E = required average illumination level in Lux
A = area considered in m2
F = initial lamp lumens
MF = maintenance factor

PROJECT – PKG-2: KEYI FPF
LIGHTING CALCULATIONS Engg. Sub-contractor

DOCUMENT NO: KE3-CAL-ELC-0908-6078 REV. : 0 PAGE 6 OF 8

UF = utilization factor

For control room :

E = 300 Lux
A = 66.856 m2
F = 3450 lumens for 2x36W fluorescent lighting fixture
MF = 0.8
UF = 0.69
300 • 66.856
N= = 10.5 choose number of lighting fixtures was 10 (same value result
3450 • 0.8 • 0.69
from software for an illumination level of 318 Lux – see Attachment Att.6.1.1)

For outdoor lighting calculation the Point-by-Point method is used software to estimate the
number of lamps which give the illumination level requested.

F • MF
E= • cos 3 θ
h2
Where:
E = required average illumination level in Lux
F = initial lamp lumens for angle θ
MF = maintenance factor
h = mounting height (in metres)
cos θ = angle between vertical and point where illumination value must be calculated
cosinus

For lighting below pipe rack:

F = 2500 lux for 64 degrees angle for 2x36W fluorescent fixture
MF = 0.8
h = 2.5m
cos θ = 0.438
Result for two lighting fixtures disposed at 6m between them:
2 • 2500 • 0.8
E= • 0.438 3 = 53
2. 5 2
The value is same like that result from software calculation for the same point (see
Attachment Att. 6.1.24).
