S.No. Question M CDLL CO

1. Determine the EMF of the following cell at 25 °C [4] [Ap] CO1
with the help of Nernst equation by finding the
net reaction.
Mg|Mg2+(0.001M) ||Cu2+(0.01M) |Cu
(E°Mg2+|Mg = -2.364V and E°Cu2+|Cu = 0.334 V).
1.1. Observe the following reaction. Write the half- [4] [Ap] CO1
cell reactions and cell representation. Calculate
standard EMF of the cell.
Zn(s) + Ag+ → Zn2+ + Ag(s)
(E0Ag+|Ag = 0.80V and E0Zn2+|Zn = -0.76 V) at 25 °C.
Discuss that is it spontaneous or not?

1.2 A cell is formed by dipping a nickel rod in 0.01M [4] [AP] CO1
Ni2+ solution and a lead rod in 0.5M Pb2+ solution.
The standard electrode potentials of Ni and Pb are
-0.24 V and -0.13V, respectively.
Write the cell representation, cell reaction and
calculate the EMF of the cell.
Ans Ecell= 0.12V.
2. Predict whether the following reaction is [4] [Ap] CO1
spontaneous or not.
2Ag(s) + Cu2+ → 2Ag+ + Cu(s). Justify with your
answer.
(E0Ag+|Ag = 0.801V and E0Cu2+|Cu = 0.334 V) at 25
°C
(Ans: No, The Ecell is Negative)
2.1. Write the half-cell reactions and cell [4] [Ap] CO1
representation. Determine EMF of a Daniel cell at
250C When the concentration of ZnSO4 and
CuSO4 are 0.001M and 0.1M respectively. The
standard potential of the cell is 1.10 Volts.
(Ans: E cell = 1.1592 V)

2.2 Write down the reactions at the following [2] An CO1

electrodes as well as full cell reactions:
i) Zn/Zn2+//Cu2+/Cu ii) Cd/Cd2+//Ag+/Ag
3. Calculate the EMF of the following cell at 293k [4] [An] CO1
by writing half-cell reactions using Nernst
equation.
Cu(s)|Cu2+(0.04M) ||Ag+(0.02M) |Ag(s)
(E0Cu2+|Cu= 0.34V and E0Ag+|Ag = 0.81V)

3.1. Calculate the emf of a Daniel cell at 230C When [4] [Ap] CO1
the concentration of ZnSO4 and CuSO4 are
0.001M and 0.1M respectively. The standard
potential of the cell is 1.10 Volts.

3.1 A Zinc rod is placed in 0.1M ZnSO4 at 298 K. [Ap] CO1

Write the electrode reaction and calculate the
potential of the electrode E0Zn2+|Zn = -0.76 V.
Ans: -0.7896V
3.2 Consider the following cell, [4] [Ap] CO1
Ni/Ni+2 (0.01M) // Cu+2(0.5M)/Cu
The standard reduction potential of Ni and Cu are
-0.25 & 0.34 respectively. Write the electrode
reactions and calculate the EMF of the cell at 298
k.
3.3 Write the mathematical expression for Nernst’s [2] [Ap] CO1
equation for
Zn(S)/Zn2+ (aq) //Cu2+(S) /Cu(aq)
